Enemy commander keeps flying between planets.

I played a custom map last night.
We cleared all the base of the enemy, but the enemy commander escaped using Astraeus.

The system is very large, it takes few min to transfer between planets.
And the enemy commander just kept flying, we are unable to catch him.
He wasted us more than 30 min.

Is there any solution to deal with this situation?

There is a few seconds cool down between transfers so having orbital fighters on patrol over each planet should stop him.

Also, he can only orbital transfer if there is more than one planet. Ragnarok all the planets bar one and he's doomed

We did use orbital fighters to patrol.
And we use asteroids with halley to destroy all the planets except our main base.
But the system contains two gas giants, and we can't destroy them.

I can give you a solution, report him to the devs...
Gameplay wise give an attack command to the astraeus and as soon as he gets there the avenger will start shootingi

Ah yeah gas giants explains it . The orbital cool down should have prevented him escaping your avengers though, maybe that got broken?

I had no idea which planet he goes before he crossed the sun,
and we wasted a lot of time to catch him before we start to reduce the number of planets.

The orbital fighter also needs time to travel on the gas giant.
And I didn't know where he land on the orbit.
All I can do is to fill the gas giant with fighters and wait him to fail into the trap.
But it is indeed no hard counter.

Maybe instead of fighters if you have the eco patrol the planet with the artemis railgun platforms. No idea if this would work since i have yet to experience a situation like you described, but thinking they may be effective considering their high range and damage. Thinking they may work out better than avenger spam due to that range.

Irritating noob strat that says more about their willingness to waste their own time than your skill playing. Count it as a win and quit. Or just patrol all the planets and minimize the game while you do something fun. Anyone doing this is a moron.
