Does Microsoft make the price of DLC, because i remember somewhere while playing Halo Reach someone said that their DLC is so much $ because Microsoft made the price, if this is true, how did Uber convince them to make this one free?
In my experience with games that have DLC, if the DLC does not have achievements tied to it, it can be free (ie L4D1 Survival pack, Raven Down/Old Bones for Gears 1). I don't know what other criteria are used though to determine the pricing of DLC.
Microsoft allows 1 free dlc for any given title, i can't tell you why bungie didn't give away the first dlc for free, but as i understand it there are a slew of rules for dlc. its possible they plan to do a free one down the road(like cold storage for halo 3), or that they do need some sort of revenue for this one. for an exampe of the 1 free dlc, look at red dead, they wanted to do 2, but instead had to roll one of their free dlc's to get bought with one they had planned to charge for. as far as im aware, microsoft does set the price for all dlc, probably with the exception of the "1 free dlc" rule
Well there have been exceptions. Gears 1 has 2 (currently) free DLCs. The first map pack was free, and the second one was 400 points for 3 months before becoming free.
Weren't all map packs for Halo 2 and 3 made free after a certain period of time? Microsoft has a bit more control over the Halo franchise, which is probably why they were able to force the first Reach DLC to come with a price.
Yes they did all become free after a certain time, i think thats more because they pretty much made it so you needed the map packs to play online after that point.
its free cuz you dont hafta pay for it... ... are you really guna complain about a good thing? if i were you, id just nod my head and go with the flow, cuz questioning it will make you rage when you go to download and it changes to 400MSP
Being somewhat familiar with dealing with MS for XBLA.... The first DLC is likely free for two main reasons: -It really is only two maps that are new content. That's hard to charge for. -A LOT of negotiation goes on with Microsoft when you submit your game to be considered (before you even get all that far in development). I am sure Uber told MS that they intended to make their first DLC free. Sadly, that likely also has somewhat to do with the delay - it's not a priority for MS if there is no money to be made. MS does spend a good chunk of their own resources to test everything that rolls out onto XBLA. Also, it should be noted that developers have to pay $10,000 for EVERY single patch or dlc they want to add to their game for certification. However, usually, the first one has the fee waived.
