It would be INSANE to have variations on the maps where the sky is dark, seeing the lasers and rockets firing, shaved ice glowing, glowing Pros (like when juice is full), etc. I so hope to see something like this. the idea came to me the other day when playing Blitz and trying an all Laser setup (+3 ice) with 4 supports hacking everything. The weapon fire and glowing attributes of all the pros/bots would just look awesome in a blacklight type setting.
could i add/modify the idea to add settings instead of new maps. you could add a setting to add weather like snow, rain, fog, clear. and time of day like morning, afternoon, dusk, or night. and just apply this to current maps. it would almost be like having many more new maps.
Would the effects alter the game? As in i know Fog would obscure vision, but would rain make things slippy, snow effect jumping etc?
I wouldn't like the game changing bits, leave that to racing. Still, something like this would be awesome to see. Maybe as a Halloween Map? You guys can make a whole new map in a week can't ya? Wait, will there still be Halloween in the future?
A single enclosed corridor map would be pretty slick too, with a couple small side rooms down the hallway.. no juice, no annihilator, single track bot flows constantly being tied up against each other... that would make for a pretty wild game
i also agree snow or rain or fog shouldnt do anything to jumping or sliding, it should just be there for looks, but it would still add to gameplay and looks.
That would be sick to have the slippy effect. I want to see Steel Peel with a Mario Bros gold level skin and the upper levels are slippery. Also the players should make the "chrup-chrup" walking noise when they're up there (and maybe the jump noise). I love the blacklight idea, what if it was triggered by something in game? Once someone hits a 3x juice chain Mickey goes nuts and the board flips into black light mode, with the pinball free game noises and knocks. The should be spotlights on the player that caused it and chase them around as they play.
I agree with this idea for the Blacklight maps, I had an idea for maps with varying weather conditions such as snow (which could increase the ShaveIce effect) , rain or even lightning. Maybe it could work but I'm not sure what's involved in making these types of games.
not to oversimplify a game-maker's job, but weather would be a graphic addition that probably has an already reserved space in the game's engine. plus it would be cool as hell. any rate, if its hard it wont be done and we will know why. if its easy they might think its cool as hell too and add it into a sequel, because an update only has so much it can do, and adding a algorithm to choose weather for maps randomly would be hard in that case. (the map algorithm is already kinda bad, you either get ammo mule, grenade, ammo mule, grenade, or you vote one of those and get lazorrazor, steelpeel, lazorrazor, steelpeel...) c&c renegade had weather-addon within its first year of release, its just a screen graphic effect. snow as well. and fog. it didnt look real, like it piled up and all, but it was something to look at and think "this map dont look so normal and played-a-1000-times as it normally does". idk about everyone else, but i loved seeing snow starting in the middle of a game when playing on mesa, rain on city, fog on walls, ashfall after a successful nuclear-strike beacon was deployed, and ion-particles after a ion-cannon-strike beacon also claimed its target.
That would also be cool. Would be damn LULz if a disco ball came down when triggered. Hahahaha. In all seriousness, Blacklight would be awesome... good times.
