There was a game called Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War that was a bit before its time and unique for an rts allowed you to control a hero unit temporarily, in third and first person mode - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rise_and_Fall:_Civilizations_at_War

Would such a thing be feasible in PA and desirable? Or maybe it would just distract from the real meat of the strategy? Could such a mechanic be used for other things such as interaction with parts of units etc. Im also reminded of Battlezone and Battlezone 2 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlezone_II:_Combat_Commander

Well it's been a week, I guess it's about time to run this episode again.

Why do people keep thinking this is a good idea in a grand strategy game? On that scale, it would put you at a severe disadvantage, and would not be fun at all.
Also, Spring has this feature implemented, so you can try it out in some of the games and see what it's like.

A week is a long time in politics, plus how else are we going to guide giant asteroids/deathstars?
