Something that I think would be neat is if there was an option to tie an energy generator to a building to power it. To prevent it from just being an adjacency mechanic, I'd impose these changes:

    * Generators can be ordered to hook into anything in an area around it, not just next to it
    * You can only hook up to X generators to a single building at a time (aka you're SOL if you can't power it with the max cap of the best generators, the unit will still draw some from the global grid)
    * Excess energy is wasted
    * If the unit that the generator is powering dies, the generator does too from feedback
    * It takes several seconds to disconnect from a structure, to prevent generator micro

I think you need to flesh the idea out a little bit more. Currently I see no reason why anyone would want to do this.

The principle is rather simple: trade off additional time spent for a building and more mass for its secured running.

Why is this more secure than having the building drain from the global energy pool?
Does it prevent an energy stall from affecting the building? That's the only safety I can imagine coming from a direct power hookup and it is mentioned nowhere in your first post.

Also, I wouldn't call blowing up the generators connected to a destroyed building more secure. That's more the opposite of that.

I would kind of think this is obvious....

more secure = from energy stalls

sounds unnecessary and too complex for a poor benefit

This is adjacency without being literally adjacent. Personally I don't think proximity/location of buildings should every DIRECTLY benefit each other. There could be INDIRECT benefits though, like building your base near a radar tower, so you'll have warnings before enemies show up.

:\ no hookups for buildings to be always on or cost less energy. no hookups for me

If we were to implement a priority system it would probably look more like this than some kind of UI screen. No current plans for anything like this though, sounds like a neat mod.

Look more like what? Are you saying if you were to implement a priority system that you would be able to "hook up" generators to buildings so that they have priority?

I'm saying it's a more interesting design direction that just a UI with buttons. I like seeing stuff on the map in the actual game.

Again no plans to implement this.

Ok cool. I'm sure we'll see it in a mod! Pretty much anything that gets talked about in these forums will probably show up in mods haha. But I'm glad you guys are focusing on what's important to the core gameplay!
