I personally feel that dedicated servers are better.

    This forum needed a topic.

I would like the option to filter out undedicated servers.

This would be a nice feature, though I don't find it much of a problem since you can sort servers by ping.

    Most naive statement evar.

Listen servers can also have decent pings simply by being near you and/or being on cable broadband.

But guess what? Listen servers are FAR more unstable compared to Dedicated servers. Even if ping checked out, there's still the problem of packet loss and de-sync as the rig the listen server is running from gets crippled and drowned by all the bot AI is has to cater to in this game.

UT3 had some lame bots and even they could put a choke on your system. And they're five times less in number than the bots in MNC.

Hey, didn't you also kick off the PC strategies forum like this?

I'd like to think that dedicated servers are the bestest forever and ever bacon.

As long as someone has enough upload bandwidth then listen servers are fine (assuming their CPU can handle serving of course). Bot AI in MNC would be absolutely minimal compared to say, RTS titles, so I cant imagine that being an issue.

    Clever, I like that.

My view is that I just don't play one game it's several. And when I find a bunch of gamers that make the game fun and balanced, having the server break because the host leaves is wrong and looked down upon by me. I'm for dedicated all the way.

The superior performance of dedicated servers is what really makes them better. You can get far better pings and the game runs smoother. With player hosted servers you will really feel the lag difference, particularly with grapple. Plus, no one has host advantage with dedis.

I feel "true" dedicated servers are the way to go . Dedicated server boxes hosted in data centers with premium bandwidth. Yes many home connections have good connections but nothing beats a nice fat 1 gig port sitting in a data center on strong back bone.

Wish they had this for Gears of War 2... host will usually win in a 1v1 dual. lol

Very true, nothing can beat datacenter speeds.
I like to own my hardware and don't prefer to rent. That way, it's up to me and if someone makes me mad online - i'll pull the plug! j/k
I am lucky that my ISP is very generous with their bandwidth and that the cost is minimal. Sure the speeds are lacking vs a datacenter, but it's the setup, tear-down, and network building that I enjoy. :D
