Hi, since yesterday I try to set up a dedicated server on my old XP machine. Perhaps anyone noticed the "Voices of War"-Server where it's sometimes not possible to join. When setting up a dedicated on my Win7 machine everything works fine. But then I can't play. That's why I want to run the dedicated with my other machine. I changed all public ports to the other client and started the server, but the log seems to freeze after the first one tried to join. So I think it could be another problem then wrong port forwarding or another network issue. Does anyone have experience with setting up a dedicated with XP? Ports (all TCP & UDP): 7777-7778 1200 27000-27039 One interesting thing is, that the server isn't writing a log-file. I think because of the old graphic card I can't start MNC on that machine. So I had to copy all UnrealEngine3 manually to the My Documents folder. monitor your task manager for the mnc.exe server task, do you also notice the cpu usage drop to 0 as soon as the first person joins? (currently having same issues on a VPS)
Going to assume another router/NAT issue since the OP said he can start the server but can't get in himself. I run my server on XPSP2, so it's not the OS.
he means he cant play because his steam account is in use by the server not a router issue, haveing the same issue on a Virtual Private Host.
For the server I use another steam-account as for playing. When I host with the Win7-Machine the server is full after a few seconds. With the XP-Machine nobody can join. They use the same network settings, just another IP. It looks like the server freezes with the XP-machine.
These are all issues they are working on . I found it strange too that what would on one setup would not work on another. I personaly bought three copies of the game on three steam accounts . One for my home system and one each for two of my server boxes. Seems to work rather well doing this way.
It freezes for me the exact same way on both a 7 64 bits and an XP 32 bits, tried with different steam accounts (only one owning the game tho), and still freezes. Racquemis' server is not behind a NAT and has direct connection to the net, so I'd rather think it's something a bit more complicated to troubleshout than OS or routing specific issues. A dev stated that they have a machine having that problem, as they can reproduce the bug hopefully they'll find out.
Dang, my friend who's trying to get his server up is having this too when I try to connect to it, windows 7 64 bit both of us. I just wonder how the other ~12 servers are running their servers fine?
