I was playing another game and saw that it had a dedicated server fuction. where the host would spectate the match but be unable to play. I think this would be a nice little add on for MNC. I know that I LOVE to spectate matches...ahh good old TF2...I dont know it just is fun watching others play. This would stop the host migration problem for this mode and keep a full 6 on 6 team. or 5 on 5. I just wanted to throw this out there..because if this was in the game I would be hosting alot of spectate only matches.
The dedicated servers you are talking about are exactly whats in the Far Cry console series. Sadly not many console games even have dedicated servers let alone player hosted ones.
The Rainbow Six series still incorporates this, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the original xbox also had this. I for one would be more inclined to play MNC more if dedicated servers were running. The best and cheapest way to do this is let the users setup dedicated servers on their box, that way the developer does not have to spend time and money on upkeep. To be honest I have been sick of matchmaking for years as it has brought out the worst in people and the overall quality in community degrades every year. Luckily MNC does not suffer from this for the most part due to its niche user base compared to mainstream titles like CoD and Halo. Here is hoping they incorporate something like this in a future update or even more hopefully, MNC2.
does ANYBODY realize that dedicated servers are a pain to make actually work for consoles? thats why all CoDs have them for pc, but not xbox. i believe the same goes with halo. here is a wish for microsoft (might as well post it here, it has the same chance of being listened to here as it would hadve if i sent it to microsoft, who would ignore it). make games for xbox360 able to have servers set up on pc. hosted from pc, to be played on xbox. its just packet streaming and data collecting, it can be done with a minimal program release for the game. this not only would help every game on xbox360, but the advancement of games as it is, as games on the xbox might be more customizable and supported and community-based than ever before.
Just because something is difficult does not mean you shouldn't do it. That fact is , it has been proven it can be done and works well on consoles, check out any game that has incorporated it in the past 10 years on consoles. Especially Rainbow six 3, Rainbow Six: Black Arrow, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, TF2, etc. Matchmaking has become the gaming standard as it is the cheap easy way out of doing the real work. It has its pros and cons just like dedicated servers or user hosted lobbies with server browsers do. My biggest problem with matchmaking is that is has taken away all user control to help police to community and keep them in check. Too many times cheaters and hackers get away with the crap they pull because no one has the option to boot them anymore. They go around unchecked and harass the community to the point where some people quit playing the game temporarily or worse quit playing it completely and then selling it. Feedback systems seldom work and when or if they do, the user gets a measly temporary ban and is then back at it again. Same goes for all the racist, sexist, and downright vulgar language that goes on it games. Until developers can bring better tools to help police these people matchmaking should not be the only option for online gaming. It should be a supplement to user hosted lobbies and dedicated servers as it was in a lot of original xbox titles. This is not just a rant on MNC though. It is for any game that incorporates matchmaking as the only option. MNC is a great game no doubt despite my dislikes of matchmaking, and is in my top 5 favorite games of 2010. It took me by surprise as a superb quality arcade title that has production value better than a lot of retail releases. Uber entertainment did a fantastic job on this game, and their continued support for the community is much appreciated by everyone I am sure. I can only hope that they continue to release high quality games like this in the future, and maybe someday a full retail release of an MNC game that has a lot more quality content to help bring more people into the game.
It works in CoD also, or any game with a spectating option. You need the ability to choose teams though.
