Hi Uber Ent. , In Homeworld 2 you can load an image for use as your fleet's insignia. It appears on all your units and everyone in the game can see it. It has to be a particular file format and size. It is very small and is downloaded to all players in the game. You also pick your fleet colours. This is a two colour scheme instead of a single colour. Can this be incorporated into PA? The insignia gives an exceptional personal touch to your fleet. You pick it in the game chat room before the game starts. I used to use a Mojo Jojo image and a white and purple colour scheme a lot when playing as the Vaygr. In any case, two colours instead one reduces the chance of overlap and the insignia takes it to the next level. You could also use these to show who has control of planets and solar systems. I hope this makes it into the game. Rebuilt
Same function was in Dawn of War, and I loved it in there. Better than just one colour select. I really hope they will implement something like this.
If this were implemented, I would personally go for a medium selection of premade insignias, which get automatically colored by the 2 team colors. This rules out the possibility of all the d*ck images . Otherwise the team will need to implement all kind of safety measures. I guess this would be the kind of thing also, where the community, if accepted, could load up their designs to save Uber some work possibly.
I think a "report this player for inappropriate image" button would be enough. There are already quite a few games that allow you to use your own images, so it can work. I think it depends a lot on the community too. This probably wouldn't work in CoD, but since this is a RTS with an emphasis on macro, I can see this having a higher chance of not being infested by stupid images.
There were never any insignias of genitalia in any of the Homeworld 2 games that I played. The Internet will be the Internet. If you get a dude/gal with an x-rated insignia then simply say you don't like it and ask them to change it before you start the game. The player's insignia is visible in the pre-game chat room. If they don't comply then either you boot them or you leave. They'll end up finding a group of people that like genitalia insignias and you'll end up finding a group that doesn't. Let it self regulate. There is only so much you can do to sensor the Internet. No sense in preventing a feature that most will love because a few players transitioning through puberty get the giggles on seeing a wang or boob or honey-pot on their units. Rebuilt
I agree with that. Besides, it's not like you'll see those insignia a lot (although I rather like the idea of stamping it on a planet in strategic view mode if one single player controls it).
Yes, Homeworld 1 and 2 was Relic's money maker before Dawn of War came along and stole all of mommy's and daddy's attention. Ever since DoW, we HW crew have been trying to have our voices heard for HW3 to no apparent avail. Rebuilt.
