Hey, both me and my 'bro had donated to the kickstarter, but only he donated enough to get onto the Alpha. I've watched a game or two, and I'd like to bring up a small gripe I had with the bots. Maybe it's just personal preference, but I felt that the bot models were a bit too small. It felt more like I was herding ants than controlling an army of murderous robots. It's not a matter of damage, or health, or build cost, etc.; I just think that they're too small.

Sooo.....yeah. Opinions? If so, post below.

They're supposed to. T1 kbots aren't "murderous robots" so much as "cannon fodder".

It's not just T1, I think that the T2 'bots are a bit on the small side as well. I know the T1 'bots are supposed to be killed en masse, but that doesn't mean that they need to be that small. I mean, I'm fine with the tank sizes, why not make them roughly similar? Currently the T1 'bots are only half the size of the T1 tanks.

I think it is to early to judge until we get access to asteroids and put units on it.
Plus ...Would you think planets are going to look alot smaller with bigger units?

I have to say I think they're tiny. I thought their scale in the kick starter trailer was pretty good.

I would say they should be even smaller in order to give the planets more of a feeling of scale. Making bots bigger inadvertently makes planets feel smaller...

Tiny can still be deadly....they're quick and in vast numbers they can really overwhelm you.

It's more the ratio of t1 bot size to t1 tank size that's important.

I have to say that I agree with Comham; It's their size relative to other units, namely the tanks. It makes them feel smaller, since we have real-life tanks to compare them with. From my perspective, they could be regular guys in heavy combat armor.

It's not what I would want (I would prefer a feeling of tank-sized robots akin to perhaps the scale of some Mechwarrior Mechs, for example), but if that's what the vast majority of people want then there's not much I can do aside from modding the unit sizes myself.

Well, that's my two cents. Take it or leave it.

It's the size difference that makes the little buggers easy to tell apart from tanks.

They are too bloody small for me even when zoomed in quite a bit, need scaling up, not much but a little bit.

Well, it's also their totally different silhouettes and the way bots swing their arms and legs when they walk. Size is minor compared to that.

Bots are weaker than tanks by about 20% per unit, and their size reflects it. Uber has stated this themselves.

Is it really necessary to make them THAT small, though? It doesn't exactly look like they're only 20% less powerful since they're half the size of the tanks. Isn't there some other way of conveying damage potential?

Which should you be more scared of? A 10m tall bear or a 5m tall bear? Most people will agree the 10 foot tall bear.

And should you be more scared of? three 5m tall bears or a single 10m tall bear? Most people will think the three 5-foot bears.

Humanity is generally programmed to think "Bigger is badder" and "More is even worse" because it holds true for most of the things we encounter in our natural lives. It isn't the only way to convey damage potential, but it is the most effective.

I'm kinda disappointed, then. What you say about unit size does ring true, but for me they're so small that they give off an 'aura of insignificance'. Hopefully they'll include a couple 'bots to use as heavy hitters, and their size will reflect that.

However; they really should make them bigger, purely out of the fact that they're quite hard to spot individually without their icons, further out.

TBH, I think ALL units need to be smaller because Planets are tennis-ball sized compared to real planets. A 50% reduction in size would be ideal.

Then they'd have to increase the amount that you can zoom in by, otherwise It'd REALLY feel like playing with ants.

Aren't the Alpha planets only 1/4th the maximum planet size, though? I think I heard that mentioned once. If so, just make all your planets super huge.

The issue isn't gameplay, it's visual. Units are perfect as they are now, they take a nominal amount of time to get around a planet but they're still pretty fast. Currently it feels like I'm playing with lego men on a ball of putty. It should be more like playing with death-god robots on a ball of molten slag.

...But that's what I said in the beginning. It's not their performance I have an issue with, it's how they feel when I'm controlling them.
