We need some type of ground weapon or one that orbits the planet that can counter the moons/asteroids. something like a giant rail gun or something. any thoughts on this??
It's.....a complicated subject. I mean, Neutrino seemed to be of the opinion that Asteroids aren't really the kind of weapon that should be stopped, mitigated to some degree maybe, but not stopped. And it makes sense especially given the potential scale of PA where losing a single planet isn't really that much of a set-back on the grand scheme of things.....unless your Commander was on it obviously. Mike
Honestly, once the moon/asteroid/whatever has been launched, it shouldn't be able to be stopped. The counter should be your scouting and prevention of the situation in the first place. Now you may say "but you can't break through a heavily defended planet in time!" And to that I say WRONG! just kidding. Yeah, that's the real issue. You can't. and that's what needs to be fixed, and I believe that uber is working on this right now, or at least improving the situation with changes to orbital.
all those point are pretty good. but what t it could break it up and have the damage spread and cause less damage??
The trailer shows a counter to the asteroid, it shows a rocket launch that breaks up the asteroid into smaller pieces but it still hits home. I think this is needed; the pieces can still come down as unguided nukes with different art. The amount of pieces created and the amount of rockets needed to break it apart would be dependent on the mass of the asteroid. This will allow it to still cause much damage in the target area but will not be a planet killer. I would even like it if the anti-nukes can be used to break it down further once it enters atmosphere to minimize the AOE.
I think that asteroids should create a shockwave that has a distance based on the asteroid size so throwing a radius 100 rock at a radius 1000 planet isn't an extinction event and there should be a way to reduce the size of an asteroid or beak it up to reduce the effective shockwave (break up a R=300 one into 3 R=100 ones and you get much less collateral damage).
Those rockets don't actually counter the asteroid, it still destroys everything. It's even been stated by Uber that those rockets were intended as a demonstration of how you couldn't counter an asteroid. Instead, Uber has been looking into different sizes of asteroids doing different amounts of damage.
don't you agree it shouldn't be as easily accessible? I think the number of halleys required to move a planet should be multiplied by five for smashing but left x1 for moving. Currently any and all games with a movable planet WILL at some point have that planet smashed. Often around the 35 min mark. Don't you agree that's ridiculous? not much of an "End Game", "Rare" weapon if you do it every game with great ease. It should be made to be an impressive feat to accomplish and not so recurrent. The signature of a match that has raged on between very well matched foes for a very long time. and of course 1-halley planets should do as much damage as a nuke , with the damage scaling up as the size of the planet scales up, to be fair at all.
That was pretty much what I meant by "Mitigating damage". An Asteroid that might "Destroy" a planet might turn into a bit of a "meteor shower" that only results in a bunch of Nucks/Mini-Nucks carpetting half of the planet. But it can really depend on how the Asteroid Mechanics turn out. Maybe if asteroids remain as they are and destroy everything on a planet and all the rest, but considering even Uber wants to refine the asteroid mechanics it's not something we should be assuming. Mike
the missiles in the trailer merely show that once a moon is on the way you cant stop it .... as seen in the trailer the planetsurface got annihilated regardless ... and there should be no option to destroy a moon with missiles .... the ammount of work and resources that go into and are lost with the destruction of a moon are just too high to be so relatively easily countered by mere missiles ... moons are to be conquered in order to not get them thrown to your planet ... either that or nuke them to stop them before being launched and not after ...
