So, coming from SMNC I really enjoyed having the option to get cosmetic items and combine them. What do you guys think of that? I could see some special paint jobs for your robots or a new model and skin for your commander. I'm sure ARM or CORE commander skins can't be introduced due to copyright problems but maybe skins that look similar. Of course unit readability must not suffer too much but I would enjoy repainting my commander every now and then. What about you?

I feel it's mostly appropriate for the commander, but I also feel it lessens the impact of having one of the cool pre-order commanders. So a bit torn on the issue.

I guarantee some sort of micro transaction model with customization until the day Uber says no =P

So we're thinking Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War type customisation here? Or some slightly better version of Minecraft skins?
Or an entirely new 3D model?

Team Fortress 2 as a game went to complete sh!t; their customisation options are eyesores.

The term "horse armour" carries the same demeanour today as it did back when it was first uttered.

I never saw any problems with TF2 items. Most of them look hilarious.

But then, it fits the game style. I'm not sure if the same could be said for PA.

You're not one of many... I hope...

TF2's customization is one of the best parts of the entire game. And I would'nt mind seeing some kind of customizing of armies, like lil' flags on assault bots :D

Are you talking about the army painter from both I & II or just about the skin pack DLC one could buy in DoW II? (Death Korps of Krieg, Ultramarines, Freebootaz, etc.)

I think unit readability is far more important than cosmetic add-ons and such.

Also my thoughts on army painters and such are well known by this point, short answer: No.

Indeed I am [Edit: yes, the army painter]. I'm genuinely confused as to which of the above OP was originally referring to. From my experience, stuff like this makes instant identification that much harder (unless your strategic view is set to good guys / bad guys rather than colour co-ordinated).

I could see entirely new 3D models too. As long as you can easily identify which commander belongs to which player (and that it is the commander... :p) I would appreciate if Uber thought about it.

And I friggin' loved the unit painter in Dawn of War (haven't played the other 40Ks after it though, SupCom/FA was my favorite).

Additional model sets could be cool.

There are many different chess boards you can buy. All of them you can usually tell the bishops from the knights and rooks.

I wouldn't mind it as long as things are kept in check:

-Models have to fit theme, both of the game and all the units to each other, because you probably cant tell multiple different skins of chess boards apart if you used rooks from one and bishops from another
    -Has to have discernable features
-This means there need to be official ones allowed in official games, and player ones if they want to use them for personal reasons.
-Color as well need to have player variation, as well as official coloring for official games. This might be player-chosen trim and game-mandated color, or something.

I think team color settings will be one of the more important aspects. I want to be able to pick from a multitude of colors before the game starts, SupCom's color palette was... lacking to say the least.

I personally don't want micro transactions of any kind in this game, that is something reserved for other kinds of games, I payed for this one, kickstarted it, I don't want to pay more money down the line for single items. I will do expansion packs but they should have a good amount of content. I wouldn't mind a little customization but unit readability takes precedence.

Uber won't be able to afford to support the game post launch so we want some sort of way to support future development. They've already sold a significant amount of their copies as the funding to make the game so the amount of revenue from the game as it launches might be a little skewed.

There's a reason they're putting so much effort into UberNet.

The number of backers only amounts to 44,162 for Kickstarter alone. Do you really believe this project would have only made 44,000 sales, or no more than around 100,000?
