Alright, I'm tired of being as quiet as the grave when playing MNC. It's boring me to tears not being able to communicate. Might as well be playing with NPCs.

Typing is not an option, it's too slow & leaves you vulnerable.

I'm running Windows Vista Basic x64

    Here's the thing:
I have both a USB headset, and a 3.5mm microphone. Both record fine.
Both were setup and tested on Steam fine.
And before you ask, they are not plugged in at the same time.
Used the USB one on TF2 for ages, so I know it's not Steam.

But when it comes to MNC ingame, neither works. I map the talk key to an unused button, usually something on the d-pad or push down on the left stick. Wish there was an option for open mic, but I really doubt that will ever happen on the PC version.
I hear the little sound for transmitting when I press said button, but the little speaker icon that lights up when you talk does not.

Is there someone that has successfully set both a controller & a microphone up together and gotten them to work? If so, could you please explain how you are setup / got it to work.

The speaker doesn't always show up when you talk. When I use it, more often than not, it doesn't but people can hear me.

Get a second person and see if he can hear you.

    Every time I try:
    "Hello, hello, anyone hear me?"

No one ever responds, neither text nor voice.

Either they really can't hear me, or no one bothers to reply.

In my experiences across multiple FPS games, when it comes to random pubbers, it's the latter

Just tested it again today, and yep, I was being ignored before, because people replied to me this time around.

What the heck do people have against team work?

    Honestly now.

Case in point, it works, people are just... unfriendly.

Pull up the options menu > Keys > assign the talk to an unused button on the controller.

    This can be:
Pushing down on the left/right thumbstick
    D-Pad direction (I prefer left D-Pad)

You probably won't see the speaker icon flashing, but I wouldn't bother talking to randoms, they never talk back. Best to use voice comms with friends, who actually care what you're saying.

Make sure to test your mic is working with Steam Settings first.

everything tests out fine in steam playback/recording and the windows playback/recording settings but when i last tried to use my mic in-game i remembered seeing mic symbols pop up by other players but i did not hear anything though the headset

also when im trying to set push-to-talk to a controller button it doesnt let me press one only does it for kb/m (again steam and windows test out fine with playback and receiving)

The game has tricky coding, I have not been able to get voice from other players through my headset, it just comes out of the speakers. Make sure your receive volume is turned up in Steam settings.

    1) Make sure your controller is plugged in and working before starting MNC
    2) Go to the options
    2) Press once to change the button associated with talk
    3) Press the thing on your controller that will trigger the push to talk(D-pad, thumbstick press, etc...)

Best way to test these things is with a friend in-game. ;)

Remember, you have to do this under the keys tab, can't really change anything on the controller tab.

You should be able to remap the talk button (t) to something on your controller.
