Im very interested how devs will handle this case. This game have huge potential, I think nobody else have done something like (free) updates in strategy with new units etc. It can make game alive forever (cartoony graphics is another + for this idea). How it will look, if there will be something like this?

    My ideas for community help:
    - Something like "polycount" contest (TF2, Dota 2), where players make units as 3d models and give ideas for them, how they will work. Devs later choose best (give awards in game) and balance them before adding them in another big update.
    - Just topics in special subforum with ideas for new units that will expand game possibilities with strategy and tactics. Devs can look there and pick some if idea is great.

Those ideas worked well in Dota 1 (with topics containing ideas for heroes) and TF2 (new weapons).

    What do you think?

The difference between those games and PA is that they are supported by a free to play marketplace, also a lot of those models don't have any balance variations.

For the problems with multiple models for the one unit - see the threads that mention stat variations. For the problems with regularly adding new units -

    • You have to balance them against every other unit, a much harder task for an RTS than an FPS.
    • This will drastically increase clutter over time as factories give you the options of (hypothetically) building 20 slightly different light tanks.
    • Players have to know what *every* unit can do, so they can determine what is needed to counter them.
Personally, I think this type of game actually favours the expansion style of updates, releasing a collection of units at one time that collectively add new elements to the game and are well rounded. Regular updates should be for stuff like balance, new maps(?) and bug fixes. Just because I said expansion doesn't mean that it has to be a paid expansion though.

tl;dr - You are about 6-8 months early in starting this discussion.
