Been going back to playing SupCom after PA was announced.
With Forged Alliance Forever running things now, it still seems that connection issues abound. People lag out, connections are dropped and we manually have to port map?

Just seems a little crazy in this day and age that games don't just "take care of themselves".

I know I'm a network newb and me being behind a 2nd router isn't helping me with my port mappings.
But the fact this needs to be done weirds me out.

Hoping the client-server model makes this kind of headache go away.

Have you tried using uPNP? There's an option in the menus at the top of the FAF client window.

Yeah, but I'm behind 2 routers, so it doesn't seem to be working for me.

Why on earth do you need two routers !?

You don't even need one if you have a single computer.

Also, completely off topic and out of place. You should post on the FAF tech forum.

Because of the lack of IPv4 the ISPs put routers between them and their customers?

I've posted this on some tech forums, I'll get some help there.

#1 is the DSL Modem/Router that goes to my tenants.
#2 is my personal one I use as an access point for my wifi.

Just wanted to mention this, as it seems like there are plenty of other games and programs where this is taken care of auto-magically.

Just thought it a little odd for an end-user to have to babysit these kind of settings.

To answer the actual original question, yes, the server/client architecture will solve many of the issues that FA / Supcom /TA had, including NAT traversal.

There are several ways to ease up the settings, but I'm far from being a network expert, and my router is actually so good that I'm unable to replicate any connection problem.

Also, I have to build the system around something I didn't code to begin with. But there is already a large improvement with uPnP and proxy servers.

So my only solution is to test it through other people problems. So if you want to help me and make the process better, this is the only place to post about it :

You don't need a router between you and your provider because of ipv4.
Your provider give you an WAN IP, and if you connect your computer directly to your ADSL modem, it will have the same, no router needed.
You only need a router if you have multiple computers behind the same WAN IP, but the providers have the bad habit to embed a really crappy router than can't route correctly in the they give you.
