Hello all, I haven't played PA since July, I've been very busy. With the holidays I had some time and thought I'd try it again. I logged in and tried to enter a game a couple buddies started up. The game list was refreshing fine, but when I tried to join, I was immediately given the "Connection to server failed; Returning to main menu" screen. The same with New Game. It doesn't appear that it is even checking, the screen pops up immediately. Since July I got a VPN so I tried on/off different locations etc, absolutely no difference. I also switched from Windows 8 to 8.1 though I'm not about to reset that just yet... The build of PA is 58772. I do live in Japan, though I'm not sure how this would be the issue.... anyway, if anyone has seen this before or has any advice, would be appreciated.
Do you have any anti-virus or firewall installed? PA should able to make external connections to TCP ports in 9000-9050 range.
AVG free version. Wasn't an issue before. I'm reinstalling PA now. I'll try again with and without VPN...
I reinstalled. Tried with and without VPN. This time, WITH the VPN, for a split second I got 'Failed to connect' (failed to something) before the usual Connection to server failed. It was within a blink and did not replicate it when I retried without VPN. Totally weird... I was hoping to play with my friends this vacation, but I can't imagine what it could be...
I'd try to disable AVG. We know Panda is still causing problems, but it's possible that AVG is as well. Being in Japan should have no impact, other than you don't have any local servers available to you yet. Closest to your location are US Central and Australia. If you are now unable to connect, and you used to be able to, I'm fairly confident the issue is in your network, as we haven't made any changes to UberNet in that time that would affect connection, and the only real networking changes have been in the ongoing effort to improve bandwidth usage and performance.
Thanks for the help. AVG was not the issue, I don't think. I had some trouble diagnosing this because steam is also giving me trouble (new issue as of today). Peerblock appears the be the issue. When I disabled it I was able to make a new game normally with AVG and VPN running. On a side note, my steam ticket failed and I had to log in to UberNet old-school (oh my). Once more, thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to playing now!
Having the same issue here with two other buddies. We're not using firewalls or anti-virus stuff, but gonna try opening those ports mentioned above, see if that helps. Gonna see if using Evolve/hamachi works. Weird thing is that when I created a game, some random guy joined, but my buddies couldn't.
