So as I've commented in another thread, I've been away for quite some time. When last I looked at discussions involving commanders, there was talk of them having different abilities or qualities (well balanced though, so as not to provide anyone with an overall advantage.) However in the 1.0 version of the game, this appears not to be the case... Did I miss something or are different commanders just different skins? Is this going to change or is this just the way things are now? Thanks again for any information
I belive for the time being they will all be the same stats wise to prevent in-balance by commander selection.
Went with skins. This took some thought at end of alpha, back when I was Vanguard. They decided earlyish, that for the moment, any commander ability is a balance gamble. give cloak, damage buff, and flight. Two of those things put commander in possible danger. Player solution: always choose cloak. Game becomes boring in that field. idea may come later still, with a good time spend thinking how to keep commanders from being unused.
Most of the player base was against it as they thought it'd turn into a pay2win style game, so Uber decided "maybe we'll try it later"
Some commanders do have different weapons though. Theta, Xinthar, ShadowDaemon, and Gambitdfa all fire missiles, while Armalisk, SacrificialLamb, Progenitor, Delta, and Aryst0krat all fire lasers. The others fire boring projectiles.
Some cosmetic differences with regards to the weapons would be nice, commanders that can fire lazers or missiles but dealt he same damage and stuff. Edit: Read above, be nice if they did that to some commanders we all have.
Hey Everyone, In terms of special abilities I guess these could be separate from the weapon each commander fires. It could also potentially be a selection for the commanders when you start the game so every single commander has access to the abilities but you can only choose one. Now I know how people feel about Shields.... that's all good but I'm just going to use this as an example as I'm not feeling super creative this morning Perhaps each special ability could be a one time only use thing or dependant on ability could only be used 1-3 times maybe... I dunno.... like a personal shield or a teleporter or possibly even a cloak.... the ability wouldn't last long but I guess would give a player a last ditch chance of survival or something.... Anyhoo i think there are ways to implement this fairly and to also ensure there's no 'pay to win' feeling to it. Cheers, -Todd
Well commanders do have the uber cannon special ability, and many are already lobbying for a cloaking ability.
