Somewhere in this section, I read about people complaining that commander are useless, and need to be boosted. others replies that commanders too OP can shorten the game. What about introducing some talents/perks/evolutions that can be build during the game like in Supreme Commander (this game should be a kind of other episode of that saga, so I don't think to publicise competitors)? Maybe we can have different type of perks like utilities (including build options), attack, defense and movement with different grade for each type (i.e. speed booster=>fliyng=>planet orbit=>moons orbit=>solar system movement)
This has been discussed many times and is a confirmed no: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/confirmed-features-list-2-0.44950/ It's a no for several reasons. First off, Commanders are supposed to be a liability. They aren't supposed to be on the front lines. Second, upgrades do not fit in WYSIWYG. I can see a Commander icon and know exactly what its capabilities are. But if upgrades are introduced, then it is no longer WYSIWYG and I don't know what its capabilities are at a glance.
Commanders already "evolve" over the course of a game in a very deliberate manner. Early game when there aren't a lot of units running around the commander is a powerhouse, almost "immune" to rushes and more than capable of shutting them down. In the late game when armies get huge the Commander is much more vulnerable simply due to there being so many more units in a given force and while still powerful, it is overall limited by how much it can do in a given time frame.
