You know, those weird talky picture pages. They're cool and you should read them. Here's a free online comic from some professional guy who does that sort of thing: http://www.freakangels.com/?p=23 Here's something you might have heard of: http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia ... p?gid=1358 Something probably entirely inappropriate: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/02/16/ ... n-burrows/ And something only slightly less inappropriate, but with superheroes: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/07/ ... bsolution/
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread Read The Sandman, The Watchmen, and MiracleMan (really great for 26 issues, then cancelled due to legal issues). I like some other stuff, but these are by far the best.
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread if your a fan of video games or scott pilgrim or curious of who he is http://www.scottpilgrim.com/ There is word on a new book out with an 8th evil ex. Based on Toronto and its very funny and witty
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread 'The Watchmen' All good suggestions though, and Watchmen is what got me into comics back in the day. I find Scott Pilgrim being mentioned every time comics are brought up amusing, as I've been following it for awhile and was at this huge chapter 6 block party (w/ Bryan Lee O'Malley) back in July.
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread Seriously, nobody else? I want some suggestions people, good graphic novel type stuff.
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread I use to read a lot of comics.. tho when I got really busy with school I stopped and never started up again. Anything by Grant Morrison was always interesting to me. We3 and his run of Animal Man are something I remember being good. There was also this crazy one I've got on my harddrive somewhere.. Subway pirates. I remember it had subway pirates. So classy.
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread No, he's not. Everything he writes is pretentious and nonsensical and just really, really awful. I mean, have you read Return of Bruce Wayne? Goddamnit. Anyway, Warren Ellis is where it's at. If you haven't read Transmetropolitan, go do that now. For a start.
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread Different strokes for different folks. Warren Ellis needs to get back on Fell. Seriously. >C
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread The only thing I'm reading right now is The Walking Dead. Ima zombie nut....
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread Not much of a comic guy myself, though I do have some interest. Hack Slash was pretty decent with the twenty or so issues I've read. In short, it's about some crazy foul-mouthed goth chick that goes around killing serial killers which happen to have some kind of pseudo-immortality. She doesn't have any kind of powers at all and her as well as everyone she associates with gets into deep trouble with cults and what-have-you. Even the most formidable of the protagonists still has nothing more going for them beyond being taller than average. And they somehow find ways to defeat cosmic horrors that don't feel like major cop outs The Killing Joke is good, but doesn't quite live up to the stellar recommendations it tends to receive. It did provide some of the inspiration for the interpretation of the Joker you see in the Dark Knight movie, but as a whole it's just a little bit above par in my opinion. I've had an interest in reading at least one of the installments of Empowered myself, but the pricetag is just a wee bit off-putting at the moment. It's about a C-list heroine that goes by the name Empowered(all the good superhero names were trademarked). Her power? She's got a supersuit that pretty much gives her superstrength and a few other nifty abilities, but...She loses all of that if the suit is damaged. And it's fragile as all hell. So most of the time she needs rescuing. But at least it can regenerate over time and Empowered herself occasionally proves she's not just some random dumb blond. Oh, and for added lulz her dayjob is cosplaying as herself. I've heard read nothing but good about the manga incarnations of Trigun and Excel Saga but of course not being into comics much I can't say whether or not I know they're good(and FFS: comics and manga are the same damn thing!)
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildcats_(comics) the second best superhero team next to the X MEN
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread If you like the show, you'll like the comic. Which isn't to say that they're the same, just to say that they're at a similar level of high quality.
Re: The Official Comic Book Thread It's very good imo. Some very memorable characters. Wallace is right, if you liked the show you will enjoy the comic as well. With the exception of the pilot, the rest of the show steers away from the book. I hope the second season get back on track somewhat.
I've gone through 11 volumes of The Walking Dead and it's fantastic. Haven't watched the show yet but that's next. Other comics I like: Lone Wolf and Cub Samurai Executioner Path of the Assassin Hellboy The Goon Watchmen Dark Knight Returns Sin City series Kingdom Come Earth X Top Ten League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Lobo Christmas Special The Authority Sandman Death: High Cost of Living
Anything and everything Deadpool. I particularly loved Cable & Deadpool. As for online comics I pretty religiously read Looking For Group (http://www.lfgcomic.com/) but that's it at the moment.
Re: Comic Books: Novels for Kids with ADD So I checked out Freakangels from this thread and ended up reading the entire thing in one sitting. Goddamned amazing comic.
