    Sniper
Dead weight that doesn't contribute to the team.

    Assassin
Noob-stomper class. Can't do a thing if the other team is remotely competent.

    Support
Puts the team on his back; Alpha Male; Gets all the bitches; Kills anyone with but a withering look; Only class you need to play.

    I hope this is accurate.

Camp until juice and then close eyes and use the hurt gun.
For added fun, look away from the opponent as well and still stay locked on - even through walls :)

That should be: Make 2 people on your team ragequit resulting in a 6v4 victory for his team.

My understanding of Classes based on observing most PC players:

Gunner: Triple to double digit Bot kills, battering ram provided he figures out he has a secondary weapon. Useless otherwise. Also known to roleplay as a sentry gun by deploying near his own spawn.

Sniper: Triple to Double Digit bot kills, drags out games considerably, inexplicably buys scramblers instead of upgrading turrets.

Assault: triple to Double digit bot kills, K/D whores on his side of the map, wins the game for his team if overtime ever occurs, thumps his k/d as evidence of his superiority if his team loses in regulation.

Support: Double digit bot kills, hacks firebase constantly in range of ejector while neglecting level 3 rockits or shaveices, thinks healing gapshots is more important than putting out a flaming teammate, builds lvl 1 longshots in all nodes, air strikes bouncers charging him. Leashes cloaked assassins/gremlins.

Tank: Double digit bot kills while going horribly negative, or single digit bot kills camping his side of the map with the railgun and getting a very high K/D.

Assassin: 1-9 bot kills, feeds the enemy constant cash, hugs the air constantly, occasionally lands a (face)grapple, oblivious to the fact they have a secondary weapon other than the few assassins that stand in one spot and S-Launcher a turret with no situational awareness whatsoever. Will always grapple a jackbot that has less than 5% of its health. Likes to camp near the hazards but will only ever think about pressing them if they are on the other team. Occasionally appear to attempt grapples on turrets.

    THIS

I'm starting to think that most games are decided by which team has the most number of retarded assassins.

Re: My understanding of class roles and matchups

In all honesty, the Assassin class itself is border lining uselessness in skilled play, even with non brain dead players behind the controls. With the exception of mobility, all of the tasks she generally performs, other classes can do so with far more efficiency.

For example, she is used mostly as a bot killer, however she must get close and defenders would have a fairly easy kill. Tanks can do the same bot killing job with the Rail Gun, the only danger being Snipers.

Her ability to kill turrets while juiced has (currently) been largely superseded by the Gunner who can attack turrets from a range, and kill them extremely quickly whilst being far more durable (while juiced) at the same time. Juiced Assassin fares little better than unjuiced against an onslaught of Turrets, while Gunner is often able to bring down one or even two LV3 turrets before his death.

Her pro killing ability against reasonably smart enemies also leaves a lot to be desired. Every other class has a powerful counter to the Assassin, ranging from an Assault's Charge, to the Gunner's Slam, to even the Tank so much as sneezing on her.

Pretty well her only real usefulness comes from activating Hazards/Annihilator, and Shurikaning down a random low level turret/firebase every now and then.

    That makes me wonder.

With the number of players going down you would think the concentration of people who know what they are doing would go up.

Also I recently had an awesome match as sin. I was playing with the RWM members that frequent the Pub mumble server. I found a server where I got sub-150 ping. It was awesome. I had not played assassin for a long time and it felt good.

I tell you, cloaking in, making an overlooked bot wave disappear, killing firebases before they go up... The assassin in the right hands is a powerhouse. Shame about that juice though.

I'm serious. The juice goes against a lot of what the assassin's mantra is. A lot of the activities I described require that they happen quickly. The assassin does not have the health pool to do sustained appearances. The damage she does to turrets does not match up with the armor.

Re: My understanding of class roles and matchups

The flaw with the Assassin is she relies more on the enemy making a mistake than the skill level of the player using the Assassin. In pubs, she can capitalize on lower level player's mistakes with cruel efficiency and quickly gain the upper hand, but against a well coordinated team that makes few, if any mistakes to leverage, playing Assassin is more akin to a drawn out waiting game.

Again, combine that with the nerf in Juice and Armor, and the Assassin is quite underwhelming when facing skilled competitors.

Didn't read past that. Apparently, you've never been to skilled play. Not to be a ****, but really, come on now, good assassin is one of the things that can carry a game. Good assassin will kill bots behind your back, he will tap your ball not letting it down, she will occasionally help your assault to annoy the snipers, control all the ejectors and the annihilator. TBH, tank is much less useful in skilled play after the changes since he's a heavy like gunner and gunner is pretty much a necessity now.

Re: My understanding of class roles and matchups

The assassin, much like the sniper, is a class most players suck at, but the few good ones can make a huge difference. Don't consider the class useless just because you and everyone you know sucks at it.

Sure an assassin can't carry an entire team, but I've met only a few players good enough to do that with any class. At the very least a good assassin can kill almost all of the incoming bots if her team's competent enough to act as a distraction.

Re: My understanding of class roles and matchups

As far as gunner vs. assassin for turret kills -- if they have no decent sniper, I do way better as gunner. If they have a decent sniper or a very aware team, I go assassin. This way I can harass, get the juice, kill the turret, smoke bomb away, and hopefully get the sniper on my way out.

As gunner, if I die, I have to be careful, find the speed boost, and then push into their base. A good sniper is just impossible to counter as gunner (assuming your team isn't pushing them and making them mess up).
