You mean the chat in the lobby? That one can suffer from the lag induced by the planet loading. I'm sure that one will improve. And as for buddy list, do you mean "SOCIAL" -> "APPROVED"? You can keep a list there of people you've played against and approved of. You can set up special games that only your approved players can join.
