There's different types of mod, I've tried to sort them into categories, and recommend some of them. It's a work in progress, let me know what you think. Let me know if you disagree with which category a the mod is in, or whether a certain mod should be recommended or not. This is subject to opinion and so far the only input has been from me.

"Essential" is rather in the eye of the beholder, I would say. For instance, I don't have "Hotbuild2" or "include KO Deferred" installed and can play just fine. "PA Stats" is a very nice and useful mod, but essential? Only if you care about stats.

Also, I suspect that with "recommended" you just mean that those are the mods you've installed yourself. ;)

That being said, it does give a nice overview of which mods do what.

I've tried to make the essential and recommended mods as "general consensus" as possible. I don't currently use hotbuild2 or no blackscreens for example. I also don't use all of the recommended mods, and do use some which are not recommended.

I like PA Stats not just for the stats. The additional features are also good, and so much has been built on it now by others that it should be highly recommended, imo.
Plus the 3D view is cool.

Would rewording essential to "highly recommended" help?

Maybe have something for starter mods, for people new to them. It shouldn't have any mods in that category that would be hard to use. Just fill it with things that are pretty intuitive.

Ah, I guess I took "essential" too literally. Yeah, not sure what you would call it then. "Highly recommended" would work.

P.S. Spelling error in your site: "There are different types of mod" should be "There are different types of mods".

Yeah starter mods and highly recommended would be better.
This will be a good resource to point to I like it.

That's how I'd say it, do I need to go back to school :p

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try and get something done for the page today.

Oh, heh. Well, I'm not a native English speaker, so take it with a grain of salt. :)
I always thought "types of <stuff>" meant <stuff> needed to be plural if it's countable, but it seems it is more complicated that that.

I finally got round to updating the page, adding a starter section and changing 'essential' to 'highly recommended'. Currently the starter section has:
    • Better System View - Adds metal spot count to each planet in the system view
    • Highlighted Buildings - Highlight different types of building in the build bar
    • In Game Timer - Adds a timer to the game. Very handy as a way to pace yourself.
    • include KO Deferred - Reduces input lag, making late-game in large FFA games more playable
    • No Blackscreens - Cures most black screen issues that can occur when using mods
    • Show Offline - Displays if a player is offline during a game
They add information without needing any interaction from the player, or fix stuff in the background. I might remove highlighted buildings as it's preference whether that's on or not. You may have different opinions hwat should be considered a starter mod, let me know what you think should be added/removed from that section.

Really nice site, gotta say. Can't think of any improvements to it really (other than minor pedantic spacing suggestions).
