Capturing!!

    So pretty simple, will we see once again the repeatedly used "Capture" mechanic from TA and SupCom?

    I think it will make for some interesting fabby rushes and other economic harrassing as well as gaining extra production facilities and help establishing forward positions.

    And if the mechanic/ability will be implemented will it be insta-capture C&C style or the timed-capture system TA and SupCom had?

    Actually, pre-Tiberian Sun, C&C used a multi-engineer system for capturing structures. In Tiberian Sun you could choose either way in Multiplayer/Skirmish.
    After it, they were all instant-capture though.
    And then RA3 had delay-capture.

    hell ya I love that in TA is was the best .. that's y I play core for the (res bot) caping arm units it was fun

    Capturing in TA was a special ability that only the Commander had, I think. Normal constructors may have got the ability from mods, but I don't remember it being in Vanilla.

    Supcom added capture to every lathe capable unit. The capture rate was individual per unit, but was generally difficult to use due to the game's interface and fairly awkward unit control.

    Supcom 2 further buffed capture in multiple ways. Engis were tougher, the command told other units not to kill the target, and capture was FAST. It was even the central element of a campaign mission, which could get you killed by your own stuff if you weren't careful. An Aeon experimental was designed entirely around capturing enemy units in a moderate range.

    How can capture work in PA? There are several angles to play with. The biggest one is to put it on the Commander. It helps on a small scale with stealing simple units, extractors, and factories. It can protect against Comm abduction, by letting the Comm simply take over the transport. A powerful capture beam for the Comm isn't totally imba, as long as it has proper restrictions like short range and the obvious game over risk.

    It is very possible to add capture enhancements as a unique bonus for certain Commanders. Don't like it? Practice that Ctrl-D micro. ;)

    Smaller options include putting capture on standard engis, restricting it to advanced engies, making it a weapon for capture specialists, or taking the base defense angle from Supcom 2.

    it was the necro bot you can ..resurrection of dead bots .. it was the last update that cave dog did for TA

    Giving capturing ability to basic soldier like RA3 and Earth 2150 was quite nice because it made them valuable even in later game. I am not sure it can make PA fun to play though...
