I used to download the Linux version as they updated and played that way. Now I decided to active the steam key and use steam so I don't have to update manually all the time due to there was no linux launcher at that time. Once the game loads and I try to login it gives me an error saying somthing about account not activated to play or somthing like that. I tryed to download the stand alone version & am blocked from that to??? No sure what happend but it sucks..
You will need to run the Windows version of Steam once. There is no x64 compatible version of the Steam API on Unix yet, so the link process between your Steam account couldn't be completed yet. I think Uber provided a special URL where you perform this link manually (once linked, BOTH Steam and standalone will work again), but I can't remember what that URL was.
