Can't join or make a game. (Bug Report)

This game looks incredibly exciting, therefore I bought it straight away (instead of buying the long-awaited mac version of SimCity which I am still waiting for). I am playing this game on Mac (I have mentioned this because it will probably be important) and when I attempted to make a game, when I started up the game was loading for three minutes, then the loading icon stopped spinning, my Mac slowed down to an insanely slow speed, it is a month old. I tried to quit the game, and then it refused to quit, then I tried to force quite, which it too refused to do. I had to wait for about half an hour to then be able to click the apple icon to properly force it to quit, after this was sorted out I attempted to join someone else's game, while the game did not crash this time there was no loading, I did not enter a lobby and the screen just stayed on the background, I tried this again several times, but to no avail. This is not a rant about how I have wasted my money on this game because this game is still in alpha and I highly expected to find bugs, so i would like to log this bug. My computer details are as below:
Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

If there is in fact a solution to this which I can perform could somebody please inform me as to what this is, if not then I hope I have been helpful and that the developers can solve this issue as soon as possible for them (obviously after solving issues of a higher priority). Thank you for any help provided.
