Can't join any servers, stuck on loading screen

As the title says, I can't join any servers, dedicated or otherwise. I can play single player no problem and can create my own games for multiplayer, but any time I try to join someone else's game I'm stuck on the loading screen until I get bored after half an hour and tab out to close the game.

make sure any firewalls are disabled for troubleshooting purposes. do you have the ability to connect directly to the internet without a router? see if it works when you do that. that will give an idea if the problem lies within the router or elsewhere.
