I have seen some threads on this topic, but so far nothing that has helped me.

I am running W7 64 bit, have already verified my account to my steam account, and attempted to launch via steam. I have verified cache, uninstalled and reinstalled, updated my nvidia drivers, and everything in between.

When I try to select a server in settings, it lists none, and oddly will not let me choose a local server (saying I would need a 64 bit OS, despite already having one....)

I am stumped, and frustrated to say the least. I haven't played the game in months, but was able to play online in the past.... any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

I realized that I may not have outlined the problem fully... The options for playing single, multi, or armory are ghosted and unselectable. That combined with no server connections has rendered the game completely unplayable......Opened with steam and uber, no difference.

The 32-bit thing is rather weird. Can you try starting the PA.exe in the x64 folder directly? That should be the 64-bit version of PA. If that doesn't work, can you upload a DxDiag.txt? You can make one by pressing <WinKey>+R, typing "dxdiag" and pressing "Save All Information...". Upload the resulting file to this forum with the Upload a File button here.

As for the ghosting. Can you try turning off all of your firewalls/virus scanners as a test and try again? If it works then, then you need to figure out how to add PA.exe as an exception.

Finally, do you have any software on this list?

This is my DXDiag from yesterday... tried the x64 directly, no change. I read in another thread to attempt to ping servers in browser, but that failed. I turned off all firewalls, etc, still no change.

    Thanks for your help!

Yeah, your DxDiag.txt looks fine to me. No issues that I can see there.

Also, just confirming, I have the steps correct: When you start PA.exe directly, you get the login fields where you can fill in your Uber ID and password, right? After trying to log in, you see the "Connecting to PlayFab" window, which disappears eventually, right? And afterwards, you still have greyed out buttons.

Could you also try adding the --nomods flag and see if that does anything? With Steam, you can add that parameter by right-clicking the game in Steam and choosing Properties. I think. I don't use Steam myself. :)

By the way, you forgot to mention if you had any software from the list for which I posted the link.

    Denim-

I do not have any of the software listed still installed on my system.

Oddly, I get no "connecting to PlayFab" or anything of the sort come up, either from steam install or uberlauncher install. In steam, I click play (or put password in on uber) and it simply goes black for 3 seconds at most, and instantly pops into the main menu screen. At the top left are the mostly ghosted buttons (anything that allows play). There are some odd anomalies though, such as the top right reading "v." as in version, but with nothing following... The news feed at the top right is blank, and I cannot check leaderboards. This all makes sense given the lack of apparent connection to the server. What else is weird, however, is that when I go to settings, I cannot get out of that page. Not save, not cancel, nothing gets me back to MM. Only a program close gets me back out.....

May be completely unrelated or part of the same problem, just some things I figured I'd pass along...

I just tried to simulate the same behaviour. I disconnect my wifi and I start PA. News and leaderboard are empty of course, as in your case. However, I do see the login box in the upper left corner unlike you. Also the version does display correctly as v.xxxxx (I forget the exact number, current stable anyway). Settings also works fine for me...

Could you try verifying the integrity of the game cache in Steam as outlined here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

Bah, sorry this is such a pain for you...

Oh, could you also post a PA log? You can find those in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log". On a typical install %LOCALAPPDATA% will be "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local". There should be a whole bunch there. Just delete them all, start PA and observe the weird greyed-out buttons, and close PA. That should have generated a new PA log. Can you upload that one here?

First, thanks again for all the help... it is frustrating to say the least, but your patience has been appreciated.

    All files were verified.

    Here is the latest log....

Yea, so as I said, no log in info or page, and oddly not letting me get out of settings or system designer pages to get back to main menu.... Almost as if it ignores my clicking on save button (or back button respectively) completely.

Hmm, that's too bad. I was hoping it may have been some corrupted files, but your PA install is clean. Also that log looks pretty clean. No errors there...

Did you ever try the --nomods thing by the way?

Another thought: Can you try performing a "clean boot" for Windows? That will make completely sure that there is no other software interfering, such as background services. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/

And another one, but less likely to work: If you rename the directory "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation" to something else temporarily and start up PA, does it work then? Renaming that directory will completely reset all user settings/Galactic Wars/mods, etc. If it doesn't work, then you can delete the newly created directory and rename the old one back to restore those settings, etc.

    Man, you are good....

The less likely fix worked...I changed the localappdata filename, let it create a new one, and the startup was different and everything. Upon starting, perfect...everything works, all menus, etc.

Thanks a million times over, hope this helps anyone else that may come across this problem.

Huh, that's really interesting. Glad you got it working! You don't have to rename the whole localappdata thing by the way. Just renaming the "Planetary Annihilation" directory should be enough. Sorry for the unclear instructions. Many Windows programs store data in the localappdata directory, so you would lose their settings too. You can just rename the old localappdata back and just rename the "Planetary Annihilation" directory inside of it.

I wonder what was causing it though. So if you are not sick of it yet, I have one final request: Can you rename the "mod" directory in your new "Planetary Annihilation" directory and copy of the mod folder from the old one? Does PA break again then?
