Every time on certain games, when I send a unit to land on a nearby moon, the unit just circles and then returns to the place of origin. I tried going to another planet outside of its orbit but the unit still could not land. I suppose this may be due to a moon being to close to a planet.
It's not just the 'origin' It means that the moon is too close to another to be landed on (tight orbits) it can affect any orbiting body. In this event, the lander ends up at the nearest land-able planet to prevent you losing the unit. If the AI does this, it loses track of the unit as it does not expect it to rubber-band to the nearest land-able planet, resulting in it constantly sending landers there to pile up at the 'hold-over' planet.
I had this problem with a moon's moon, I was unable to send a unit to it. However, shouldn't the system editor prevent you from creating planets and moons that can't be reached?
this bug is quite old^^ i hope its fixed soon, cos it sucks if you realize after 20 minutes, you cant win the game, cos your enemy is on a moon you cant reach
