I'm thinking about buying a laptop so I was curious if anyone could help me out with a question I have. I was wondering if this laptop: http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m11x/pd can play these games: Monday Night Combat Team Fortress 2 Poker Night at the Inventory World of Warcraft Guild Wars And when I say run, I mean can I have them set on the highest graphic detail and have them still run as smoothly as they should. Your help would be much appreciated.
Not an expert, but if the other guy is having no trouble then this shouldn't either. So I say yes. I discourage laptops for gaming, but if you are familiar with gaming on laptops, then ignore me lol. BTW, this would be better in the feedback and issue section of the pc subforum.
Thanks for your help. I'm not much of an expert on it either as you can see lol. I'm just trying to find something that isn't too expensive but gets the job done the right way.
With the baseline machine, the only positive aspect would be the graphics card. It is mid end for a laptop, which would be around low end for a desktop. the Core 2 Duo is last decade (sarcasm). I suggest upgrading to the Core i5 and 4 GB of RAM is almost a necessity for Windows 7. Next, invest in a good (and I mean good) cooling pad if you haven't already set something up to keep the fan(s) clear. As laptops are prone to overheating, you need to at least keep the fans from getting obstructed in any way.
I heard the processor doesn't need to be fantastic on gaming computers. Therefore, his looked okay. It just cannot run too many things at once (use taskmanager to get rid of everything except the game). If I am wrong then it is because I am not too familiar with gaming laptops, so he might be right. RAM never hurt, it needs at least 2gig. Might also be worthwhile to check steam and see what everyone else uses as far as hardware. That is because MNC can be a really touchy game, and a odd kind of processor or graphics card can have bugs with it. Some AMD still have textureless explosions and such (they are just black like you can see completely through the map).
Yeah, not a whole ton of games I've played really stressed the CPU, save for Dwarf fortress and my PS2 emulator. Again, I really recommend going with 4 GB of RAM. 2 GB might seem like plenty, but Windows 7 itself can use quite a bit, and going beyond will force the system to use Page Filing, which is using the much slower HDD in place of RAM.
as for gaming laptops, the good ones tends to be Asus and Clevo laptops. They are very good value for the power they give you for it, and alienware will rip you off twice the price for the same thing. http://www.xoticpc.com/custom-gaming-laptops-notebooks-gaming-laptops-ct-118_96_98.html whole list of gaming laptops there, the good value ones are the Asus G73JH and the Sager laptops. The m11x doesn't have a DX11 gpu, and for the games you want to run, those games can run on med-high settings (but not very high) at low-res (1280x720 thru 1440x900) but forget about crysis 2 on that thing, just saying, it doesn't have the power for that.
link should be fixed, but take the copy-paste method if it goes to yahoo (Why the hell does it go to yahoo?) http://www.xoticpc.com/custom-gaming-la ... 96_98.html as for Gpus, you want to look for these: Mobility Radeon 6970m or older cheaper but still decent: 5870m GTX 460m those gpus are best price/performance, the 485m is beastly but is expensive as hell. Cpus: Core i7 740qm or whatever the newer core i7s are, i think it was a i7-2600...
Can it run the game? Probably. Will it be fun? No. I'd say look for something better with an actual graphic chip (for that price you will surely find something that fits you).
take a look at xoticpc.com they have a wide range of laptops in every prices, and will get you more bang for buck than dell or anywhere else.
This, even an entry level dedicated graphics card will run games a thousand times better than anything integrated, and I quote, "the performance of the latest Arrendale GPUs perform slightly worse than a 4 year old $65 card with a hairball shoved in the fan."
this is possibly the best guts for the best price: http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/5214/medion-erazer-x6811-laptop-review
