Call me names!

So there are bots in MNC, quite a few actually and they need awesome names! 'Shoot that large bot over there!' doesn't really roll off the tongue in TS/Vent. 'Kill Kong!' is probably more like it.

I'll provide a starting name based on the general appearance and the little info the trailer provides and you guys put your creativity to work.

Pawn:

The trailer seems to suggest that this is probably the basic model and seems to fill the role of the first line of cannon fodder. Never underestimate a well placed pawn though, he will ruin your day!


Kong:

He moves like a great ape and only one name comes to mind. Now if you could let go of Pit Girl, please? I promise we will stop shooting... *wink, wink*


Mantis:

Agile, elegant, fast, deadly: the inverted blades scream 'Mantis'! You know they eat everything and sometimes cannibalize the male during the mating, right? BURN IT WITH FIRE!!!


Cerberus:

Look at those cute puppy eyes! You are clearly a cute little doggy and I shall name you Cerberus! Here is an energy cell for ya! Good boy! Now let go of my leg...



Kankra:

An ancient design so perfect it has hardly changed in hundreds of millions of years, our genes tell us to fear it and it haunts us in our nightmares since the beginning of time. This spider may only have 4 legs but I can recognize the archenemy when I see it! Kankra I name you! Where's my newspaper?


Titan:

Like in the ancient texts his feet shake the earth and even gods tremble before his wrath! Only Hercules himself can take him down - oh, and the Assassin it seems...

They do have names that will be known...once again, Soon (tm)

The 4th (the red one) looks like a robotized Hydralisk.

That's a good point for me.

Do the gun turrets have names already?

I like Hydralisk. Might be a problem with Starcraft II being released soon though. Maybe Hydra? Blizzard can't trademark that...

What's the theme you're going for?

We named ours thinking about sports/casinos/game shows...

If in doubt I go for ancient mythology, Greek or Roman. Sports/casinos/game shows sounds good though. Of course we can only tell once we know...

I think the real names should all be horrible puns :lol:


Sports/casinos/game shows? Let's speculate:

Pawn - the Poker (because it pokes things)

Kong - something with "back" in the name, since silverbacks are gorillas and [American] football positions often include "back."

Mantis - looks more like a bird or a raptor to me. "The Slice is Right" or "Tyrannosaurus Trebek" (horrible, I know)

Cerberus - for some reason these make me think of some kind of robotic card dealer. Maybe something involving cutting a deck of cards?

Kankra - I have no idea.

Titan - the Bouncer

i didn't see any names of robots. am i looking at the right video?

It's because we didn't include the robot names on the website or trailer. Have fun coming up with more names, we're enjoying the guesses.

well... if it's like Sup1, names will likely be of staff members. will we be seeing an AZO Bot, or a Type Eka?

I think AZO is a bot sent back from the future. There's no way a human being could do all those crazy tricks and find time to animate. Yep, definitely a bot, the liquid alloy kind that wall runs.

Hi Ben!
People meet Ben, the effects and shader wizard! He makes all the cool glowy stuff, weapons effects and things that go BOOM in spectacular ways if I'm not mistaken! Lot's of things actually and I probably have missed half of them:



Speaking of missing things, I think I missed at least one bot:





And it looks as if most of the bots can appear in groups:



So Pawn is probably not a fitting name for the first bot and I'd change it to Gladiator because its right arm is a club.

I'd be gratefull if you could be a little more specific on what I should watch out for. More bots, different function... ?

What about the glowing flying things at 1:15 in the video?

Hmmmm... I wonder if those are yet another kind of bot!

Do we have a speculated bot total yet?

I hereby christen them "the Aces."

Also, one of the bots should totally be called the Slot-er machine and have some sort of random aspect.


Lastly, this isn't related to bots, but I'm interested by the hex-looking effect when the Tank attacks the Sniper.

So far we have identified 7 or 8 bots from the trailer. There might be more but I haven't had time to search for more yesterday. Something came up...

I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of 7 or 8 bots.
