Build Templates The concept is to place down structures in a virtual grid template and assign this build queue to a key creating a build template. The main benefits are the removal of annoying micro for example placing walls around turrets and quickly establishing proxy bases. When you click the assigned key the build queue will appear you will then be able to place the build template. The template will be able to hold information about what factories will produce and what those units will do when constructed. Area commands There has long been debate over area and line building both commands have merit. The combination of both commands should please both sides and make the process easier. As demonstrated in the image below the user drags to create a line queue and then can drag either left or right of the line to add additional layers to the queue. Thank you for viewing and tell me what you think.
good. Also, can we get the ability to select and give orders to unbuilt factories and such, like the white frame in queue? also, I don't need the template, as much as I could use a hotkey to designate what the placed factory builds. Hold 1 when placing factory, factory begins by making fabbers or whatever first in blueprints. Maybe as infinite build by default when built this way. but if we did get templates, make them flexibly build around obstructions.
Or......build into/ontop of some terrain? Id just like more terrain interaction in general really.....just so I know it's actually there, an not a cool looking dodad.
I don't think your area command interface will work. At least as you have described it, it may need clarification. How do you distinguish the two drag directions? Say you want a make a line of structures between two points A and B. To make a line you would have to aim your mouse movement from A such that it is pointing towards B otherwise your mouse at B will be left or right of the line extended from the initial direction and you will have queued a rectangle. So setting the direction at the start like this will not work out. A more reliable way of setting the direction would be to let the player drag a line to somewhere and then release the mouse and drag again to set the width. This accurately sets the initial line but requires 2 clicks which would be a bit clumsy. The player would have to redo the entire command if it turns out the line is wrong for the width that they want. I think you need to go through exactly how this command is given. I am also interested in a way to give a line + width command because the ramps in ZK are specified like this and currently their interface is a bit confusing.
