I just wanted to drop you guys a note and apologize for not getting a build out recently. Because we've added a bunch of new people to the team the features have been flying in pretty quickly which has caused some stability issues in the build. Our strategy to manage check-ins and complexity of code has had to be moved over to more of a large team style with multiple branches to integrate across for different features. Getting a build is a very high priority for us right now (guys were here until midnight working on it last night). Because of this we have been conservative with the next build. There are a ton of new features under development right now that will start show up soon but not in the next build. Obviously we'll post build notes when it does show up. No guarantee on what it's arriving other than asap. Some of the things we've been working heavily on that aren't finished but are in progress: - lots of graphics optimization and features (including imposters for trees!) - tons more AI stuff - network bandwidth optimization - server side scripting (this is more medium term but is necessary for when we release the server) - getting the planetary systems saved into individual files so they can be traded - transports - formations - ability to shift orbits of planets for flybys and "manual" control - new ui style guide that will start to show up - galactic war - area commands and line commands ... and a lot more.
Thanks a lot for this status Neutrino, getting in touch we us is very much appreciated. Good luck for all this new stuff to be integrated in future build. Thanks again !
Thank you to everyone at uber for really making this process enjoyable I love seeing then patch notes and from a programmer / game designer it's amazing to hewr how you develop. I'm also greatly pleased that you have had the funds to increase the team size this can only mean better stuff in future
goodie goodie maybe new after halloween build, but now that the game is beta we don't need frequent builds anymore, just add in the new features stabilize them for the next release, main performance issue is network lag, got a 15MB cable modem connection and still experience intense lag when someone else had built a lot of units, main stability issue I have is with coherentui, until coherent labs gets up off there asses and integrates a stable chromium build into their host not much to resolve the main issues running on linux and other platforms. Looking forward to hearing the real orchestra mix soon.
Thanks for the info neutrino, I am in no rush at all for a new build, but is the origional post pretty much saying there wont be a build this week? Or is is an apology for it taking so long?
It's alright, that's the downside to getting a bigger patch as there is just a lot more stuff that takes more time to get stable. Mike
think thats to do with the dynamic destructible tree system (trees setting on fire) and fire spreading..
From what I can tell, imposters are low-polygon models of the trees that are used when zoomed out far away.
Thanks for the update, greatly appreciated! I can't wait to see and blow up all the stuff you're working on!
