I'm worried that the Orbital Laser Platform is becoming too powerful. Will the new Ion defense counter it before it can get in range?
The energy requirement is now huge(-30,000E drain), and it shoots twice as slow - it actually got mostly nerfed.
It doesn't fix the root of the problem of the idea behind the overall balance of Orbital thought. And Twice as slow doesn't mean that much when it fired one a second before and still does 2500 damage a shot. It's an Experimental. Mike
Very accurate, high damage. Sounds like a Mavor, but it's much cheaper to build the laser platform than a Mavor relatively (I think). It's also easier to take one of these out with an Ion defense or orbital fighters though, so there's that.
Well it's not become substantially less powerful, still has the same damage, just a slightly slower firerate but the same damage and actually improved health, Sure the numbers for the ammo/energy are larger, but once you get to that point it's still pretty much just as powerful. So yeah, I'm wrong in that it's not become more powerful, but you'r not quite right in that it's been nerfed per see IMO . Mike
I agree that the laser is too powerful, but it's not like you can't easily make orbital fighters of your own and set on patrol.
In this build, I'm pretty sure that a Catapult will shoot it down! Haha That's an obvious bug, but should there be an anti-orbital weapon?
Maybe the Orbital Laser could work like this , a nice long delay before smashing into the ground giving mobile units a change to flee. Or how about a Sun Lens which can fire a beam periodically, when the Sun has direct line of sight to the "back" of the unit (probably the rear 180 degree or else the poles would become immune, or maybe that's a good thing?).
