http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/ ... 3286-Brink Yahtzee kinda sorta tore Brink a new one. Also, get your shot glasses ready before you watch the video.
This review irritates me. Brink was NOT meant to be compared to TF2, it isnt even close to a similar game. Thats like comparing Halo to CoD because they both have deathmatch.
I thought it was pretty funny, and I agree with most of it. I'm def glad I rented so far, but Ive only played with 1 other person and was pretty bored. The use use use button ish is boring. Somehow mnc hacking is fun, maybe it's the clear immediate payoff. In brink it just made me a target often and for long periods. The tf2 stuff... I guess is not fair but I felt the same way initially. I want the classes to matter enough for me to want to tell them apart, but I guess just follow the icon instead.
I take it you aren't a frequent viewer of Yahtzee if it irritates you. We don't want you, non-believer.
At first the TF2 comparisons got to me mainly because of the way people used to say MNC was a TF2 ripoff until everyone forgot MNC even existed in the first place. I thought that at first until I realized that he was using TF2 as an example of basic things in a class oriented shooter that should be true. MNC does not suffer from this. The classes profiles are well defined with great variance between weapons. The maps maintain aesthetic and functionality and foster the use of what the game brings new to the table. Another example of a class based shooter that does not fall to these is Global Agenda. Defined class roles, easy to identify profiles and what it brings new to the table does not suck. Even though both games have a leveling system that requires level to unlock a feature. Even so MNC and GA allow you to complete the defined class objectives. Brink however suffers from these.
Not Minecraft, or Portal, or Shadow of the Colossus. I think there may have been a few more, but that Duke Nukem Forever review a while back doesn't count.
Infamous and Prototype are good on the same level but infamous wins out because the design company took him seriously and gave him and artists depiction of Prototypes main character in a dress. If fact both studios did this but the Infamous studio's own was better. Honestly from a gamplay and overall feel perspective Infamous wins but just barely. Prototype's map design was grand and wide but indeed copied. I gladly agree that both games belong on Yatzees list of games that he has trouble finding faults in.
God I love bad reviewers that try to put their humour into it. By reflecting on worst case scenarios and horrible reference, the guy manages to portray everything about the game as if it were a joke, now the only explanation I can make, is that he's simply trolling and doing it for hoots, but that would kind of result in a sad and irrelevant occupation, but admittedly, I'm pretty sure he fancies himself, so. credit for a happy lifestyle and let's all hope his bubble doesn't burst.
We talked on Mumble but I write it nonetheless. Yahtzee doesn't do reviews, he does rants. You don't watch it to see if a game is good or not, you go there to watch it and maybe laugh (though I stopped watching it because it wasn't funny).
