I think certain moves should be able to break mobility inhibitions of the icetrap, at the expensse of popping a skill. now, I don't meean break then trigger, I mean just break. So like if you, as an Assault, hit Charge, you'de break the Ice, but not recieve complete freedome as your mobility would still be sluggish.

I think these skills should be:

Tank: that ram ability I see them use

    Assault: Charge

    Gunner: Slam

Assassin: Either dash or smoke, Smoke makes more sense but would be imbalanced as dash is a more important skill

Sniper: Common Sense: Why are you running at another Sniper?

The reason I picked most of these skills is that they are mostly integral mobbility abilities and to use spend them to break ice would give them a fighting chance while still putting them at a disadvantage.

If it were up to me, personally, Ice Traps would be out and my Force mines would be in: Aka a blowaway effect mine that does good damage while still leaving the Sniper in relative safety.

Or simply let the traps be destructible! I ALWAYS see traps but the sad thing is when a sniper has two protecting him and is standing on another its just sad... It is funny how some snipers take a full clip of shuriken ammo before they react  leaving me with an easy finish. Still if you see the traps you should be able to shoot them. I know I shouldn't reference to Call of Duty but imagine not being able to shoot a claymore or trip it without dying :?

I do agree you should be able to destroy all mines via shooting them. I do find it weird that a Supports airstike can set off a snipers ice mine, but won't set off a Assaults remote mine.
This would just allow for removing the people who camp and set off mines. It disrupts the flow of the game if you can't. I've encountered many Assaults which just sit at a jumppad and moment it's used they set off their mine and ring out. Yes just go to other side of map, but it does greatly disrupt the flow of the game. Take a jumppad and while still in air shoot the mine.

I love that you can't blow up assault mines (as an assault) it makes my life so much easier.

^As a common user of the mine+lift=ringout+profit tactic, I am confused when the same player will keep charging in again and again, right into my trap. I mean, come around the Back! It's not that hard. On LazeRazer, where most assaults mine the lifts, there are 5 other easy ways out of the base that you can get around their mine with.

Sniper traps are destructible: anything that does splash damage will destroy them (only the assassin lacks any means of accomplishing this).

If you enabled players to simply break free of the traps then they'd become effectively useless. The only instances in which they would be effective is if your opponent didn't think about whether or not they were currently able to use their "escape" skill and still through themselves into the trap. Otherwise anyone caught in a trap would simply break it and proceed as they were.

Ah but you misread my caveats: You would still be receiving the "Slowdown" effect that you get while in the residual Ice Mine blast, even after breaking the ice, meaning you are still an easier target, AND, just to break the ice, you must use your main mobility skill so the Sniper, himself, has little chance of being rushed up on.

Yeah but the slowing effect is much less useful than say a shave-ice turret because the radius is so much smaller and the duration is rather short. Considering every class except the sniper can now escape from the traps, the only one with any reason to fear the traps would be the one setting them.

The radius on the Ice Mines i ran across was pretty damn substantial. And the duration is sure long enough for him to run across the area and OHK grapple anyone there. But maybe increasing the duration of the slow effect would be a good peace-meal?

And really, if Snipers are charging other Snipers, then they should just pick the Assassin. That's my main reason for that logic. As well, the Sniper has no integral mobility skill like the other classes, so what would he lose by getting caught in an ice mine except a big ol' slice of humble pie slapped in his face like a Tom and Jerry cartoon? Just pick up your rifle and pop off the shot.

If you're too close to your own ice-traps people would be able to set them off and use them against you.

By freezing the sniper with his target you're just making it easier for everyone else to blow him away before he can get the shot off. That's why people bother to grapple in the first place, anyone besides a support will simply gun you down if you sit there and line up a head shot (besides the fact that head shots frequently don't register properly).

I understand if you play assassin and are tired of being caught in ice traps, but just jump over them. You don't even need the smoke bomb to clear those things, or just take him out with the shuriken launcher.

You should definitely be able to destroy traps.

Sniper traps have always been destructible, you just cannot escape once you are snared.
