I know Uber is working on adding area commands and whatnot, but what I really want is the ability to send a flight of Bombers on a carpet bombing run. Give them an order to fly over the enemy base and drop as many bombs as they can on whatever target they fly over. Or maybe even a similar command, tell them to fly on a carpet bombing run over the enemy base but pick important targets. So they fly over the enemy base dropping as many bombs as they can but making sure to hit and destroy the key targets. -- Right now when you select a single target, or even shift click a stack of targets, the bombers fly over the target, drop a bomb, bank wide and circle round, drop another bomb, repeat until it's dead. The problem is, they're often destroyed after dropping one bomb when they bank wide over an area with anti-air turrets. This way I can have them fly in a chosen pattern avoiding anti-air and they won't bank over areas I don't want them to go. This also allows them to drop as many bombs as they can before getting destroyed. -- Thoughts?
Considering the ammo system that the bombers are going to use (Essentially a long cool down between attacks) id like the ability to command a single attack (One bombing run) and then have them go to their next order. That way it would be easier to control the air raids on your enemy without your bombers hovering over targets they cannot attack.
Are you talking about shift click? I'll use bombers to destroy key targets. I'll click on the target I want to destroy, and then shift click in my base. That way when they destroy the target, the bombers then return to my base while I'm focused elsewhere. This keeps them safe until I have another target for them. I use this for fighters a lot as well. Send them over my army to take out enemy bombers and then back to my base and safety so they don't get needlessly destroyed because I'm focused elsewhere.
Ahh but what about the times when one bombing 'run' isn't enough? Like if you sent too few bombers to finish the job, or if you sent out a single one to harass an opponents building or position? Thats why Id love it if I could que up an attack and retreat to base movement command, and then not have to worry about my bombers camping over a target they didn't destroy because of the cool down time.
Currently – when you shift click on a target to attack, bombers bomb it until they or it are destroyed. So if you do what I previously described, the target would be destroyed and then the bombers would retreat like you described. My bombing run idea would have risk. Not all targets would be destroyed. But you could set up multiple bombing runs and avoid anti-air.
What I mean is that the system for the bombers with the cool down isn't implemented yet, so the problem is when you send bombers and they don't kill it on the first attack, and then have to wait for 30 seconds before they can again.
