I have been playing Blitz the last few days. First of all, I love the game, awesome job Uber! By now I'm controlling the gamepad more often than the other way around and I know when it is time to quit doing whatever I do to take care of those pesky Gremlins... My favorite class for Blitz is Support (obviously) and I spam RockIts all over the place and hack them. I think for singleplayer Blitz Support is pretty much the best class, right? A hacked RockIt can outrange almost everything, you can heal and overheal them and you have your Firebase. I tried other classes but well... The only thing I have problems with is taking down JackBots fast. One is okay but two or three pretty much wreck my base every time. Hurts like a bitch when they take down two or three level 2 RockIts. I'd appreciate some recommendations from more experienced players. I could also use some tips for my custom class Support build. Right now I'm using Skill Recovery Gold (for hacking), Speed Silver and I can't remember Bronce atm. Also, is there any way to make it through The Scramble alone? I got hacked to pieces by a Gremlin swarm in seconds after I accidentally ran backwards into a turret.
Scramble isn't as hard as it seems, you just need to work on a few skills that aren't nearly as useful in exhibition/season/playoff. These skills do come in handy for sudden death and super sudden death though. -tackling higher numbers of weak bots -actually building laser turrents(their rate of fire is great against buzzers) -awareness of terrain(especially when you're not looking at it) -using traps -rate of fire endorsement -using juice to save your own *** when your health drops low I myself am a player that could only be described as mediocre at best but I find no difficulty in scramble unless I decide to try it as a Sniper...Which I don't believe I've ever done successfully. Scramble Blitz as a Support is now much easier since the Heal/Hurt Gun locks onto cloaked gremlins. Technically, Support ties with Tank as the most useful class for Blitz mode overall so I don't understand how anyone could have difficulty with anything as it(although even with bacon the Support still does lack any ability to kill Jackbots rapidly). My suggestions for those skills? Large numbers of gremlins and buzzers can be nightmarish, but some thoughtful herding technique can allow your Heal/Hurt Gun to outdamage gremlins and a hacked firebase is GREAT for mowing down buzzers. Your Heal/Hurt Gun is also very good at mowing them down, but as the number of players increases and they start coming from multiple directions you just simply need more health. Clever usage of airstrike beacons can also take out large swathes of gremlins easily. On the path in the "front" of the arena with the dual bot lanes, try building laser turrents on the moneyball side of the walls with a shaveice turrent between them. This is shockingly effective against both gremlins and buzzers. If you hack the shaveice turrent, your life will be MUCH easier. Try to memorize the layout of the arena. Play it on easier modes for a little while so you can navigate around the moneyball running backwards without effort. When all else fails, you can lure bots into range of an Ejector and take out a high number of them. Be careful with how you time this though, if your health is too low or there are simply a large number of bots within attack range of you you may likely end up dead and short $50. Rate of fire endorsements are pretty much vital to Blitz mode. Doubly so for Support when you don't have much downtime to repair your turrents and the healing you get from your Heal/Hurt Gun may be the only thing that keeps you from dying. It goes without saying that juice is a life-saver, but in scramble when things tend to be more hectic than other modes it's better to juice early than to die. As opposed to all the morons saying it's better to die than to just early, but we know better than them don't we? If you can keep up and not lose any turrents until round 10 of scramble...It gets really easy. All the bot types spawn at once, but per wave per player you should only see 2-4 gremlins, one bouncer, one scrambler, and four buzzers. Two 3.0 laser turrents can EASILY mow down all of that except the gremlins.
I am not the best Blitz player but here are some tips that work for me. The default Support is great for Blitz. Gold Skill Recovery, Silver Armor, Bronze Health Recovery. Skill of course for the hack and the other two help you survive longer. If surviving it not a problem I would use RoF as a Silver and Armor or Health for Bronze. RoF helps to overheal turrets. Playing solo I like to use the least amount of turrets as possible. On Sprintz arena the middle node under the front bridge is a Shave-Ice and the front two are Rock-Its. Shave Ice turrets are great for Blitz so having multiple in the later rounds can be life saving. I use Lazer Blazers for the front two nodes around the Moneyball. Firebase placement somewhat depends on it's level. If you have it at level 3 standing near it will heal you. At level 2 I tend to put it in a high traffic area so it helps weaken them. Jackbots are actually easy to deal with. Juiced is always a plus but on the ring above the moneyball, on the front, the Annihilator is there. That will at least do half damage to all spawned Jackbots. That combined with hacked Rock-Its (3.3) they should be no problem. You'll have to buy some jump pads to get back to the ring unless you die and respawn. As for Scramble, Shave-Ice turrets can be your saving grace here. The more the merrier. Not only do they expose the Gremlins it also makes their run into a walk. Lazer Blazer turrets can do quite a number on slowed gremlins. I haven't played must Scramble but those are my tips. Lastly, if you ever want to try a 2 man Blitz I wouldn't mind stepping in. A Tank/Support combo can be very deadly to fodder. Lag won't bother me either. [Edit] Thanks Wandrian I forgot about Ejectors. On the Sprintz arena there are three extremely useful Ejectors. Imo the two around the Moneyball are the most useful. Btw Wandrian send me a friend request and sometime we can get some Blitz matches going.
If you want to do The Scramble solo, use a Tank with reload speed gold, armour on silver and whatever else you want on bronze, then spam death blossoms like a motherfucker.
Thank you for all the tips. I have to be short, got to get up and go to work in... erm 90 minutes... I'll give it a try tomorrow and I didn't know that rate of fire worked for Support too. I thought with the constant beam. Well, it does make sense... I have been using one Shave Ice in the middle pin but I'll try a few more. What about Long Shots? I sometimes put one behind the money ball but I have no idea if it actually hits anything. Maybe the two pins way behind the money ball would be good too? I set up my Firebase on the wall where the GapShots hide today. Does some nice damage to the other bots as well and I can pretty much forget about the damn artillery. The Jackbot that spawns there kills it sometimes but its worth the time you gain I think. There can be no victory without sacrifice... Gn8, cya tomorrow!
I wouldn't bother with longshots at all unless you've already got $3000+, four hacked turrents, and every single turrent overhealed. At that point it's okay to build them. They are somewhat useful in super sudden death since the Jackbots on the ledges are annoying as all hell, but beyond that I just see no use for them.
OK I'm a Blitz support junkie. I don't care much for the super sudden death blitz though. Original is much more fun. Your custom class will need Gold skill regen, Silver Rof, and Bronze armor. You'll want to start with your firebase on the center of the short platform in between the bot spawns. You'll want to keep it hacked for the first 20 rounds or so. After that, you should have enough firepower from turrets to take care of the bots coming from the front. It will stay out there til round 65 or so. It's main purpose is to take out gapshot so you don't have to worry about them. After round 70, you can move it back into your base by the moneyball, but you shouldnt need it there. After round 70 or 75 everything evens out and it becomes a little easier. You'll get random jackbots, so the annihilator management is a little trickier, but basically save it for when the s hits the fan. You'll want a shaveice turret in the center nub between the two bot lanes entering your base. This is the most important turret you have. Get it to level 3, keep it overhealed, and KEEP IT HACKED ABOVE ALL OTHER TURRETS. When jackbots show up, and you're waiting for the second one to pop out before hitting the annihilator, overheal this turret. if it goes down, you'll be done shortly thereafter. Lazers can be handy, but rockets are better for their durability. Yes, you can rebuild lazers, but the last thing you need is a burnt out nub taking ur firepower away while you struggle to keep the bots at bay. Longshots belong in the back corners. You know, those nubs that seem useless. put a lvl 3 on each, and they will provide extra damage for steady streams of bots, and jackbots that linger after the annihilator. The turrets to keep hacked. Very important to hack the right turrets. You can keep 4 hacks going with the gold skill endorsement. There are 3 that you need to keep hacked. The rockets on the inside of your side doors and the shaveice. If you have an extra hack, hack one near your moneyball, but dont sacrifice the side door rockets, and certainly not the shaveice. KEEP IT HACKED AT ALL TIMES. Now for the annihilator. Most players I've come across use it incorrectly. Just about everyone knows to use it every 10 rounds, when the jackbots come out. Don't fire it off right away though. Get on the annihilator, get your heal gun going on the shaveice and jump up and down looking at the bot spawn door until you see the second jackbot come out. (if you're playing solo, you'll only get one jackbot at round 10). This way, you'll get all the jackbots, even the ones from other doors, and you won't have full-health jackbots coming out right after you've used it. If you want to do a dual support run, hit me up, gamertag: immortal303 Oh yeah, best team for it is support/tank. More than 2 players is too much, and the other classes arent really cut out for it.
Thanks for the tips guys. I bought the PC version because I'm familiar with m/kb and can actually hit stuff. Gremlins? I NOM them for breakfast. And I got to level 5 or 6 in The Scramble on my first try. The Shave Ice is indeed a life saver!
