My friend recently bought PA and since neither of us are that good with devices and hardware and drivers (its all jibberish) and ive searched for him how to get rid of it but every time he starts the game all metal icons are black boxes, all his units are black boxes and his buildings are black boxes. I dont want him to be put off the game due to everything being black boxes. All that loads for him is the planet texture and sun. ive searched this problem on the forums and Ive made him use codes on start up without success. If anyone has the solution, can they clearly explain how to fix this problem?

What OS does your friend use? If it's Windows (and it sounds like it is :)), we'll need your friends DxDiag.txt for that. Press <Win> + R and type dxdiag. Then save all that information to a textfile and upload it here.

This happened to me too, I have a sorta crap computer, but it runs most games normally. The only problem is with the icons, if I turn off the icons I can still play, just with no icons. If the problem is my computer, I guess I'll just have to suck it up.

Your problem caused by outdated drivers:
    Code:
              Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
         Driver Version: 8.15.10.2361
       Driver Date/Size: 4/10/2011 15:51:02, 8238592 bytes
To update drivers download and install "win64_152822.exe" from Intel website:
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23764

If you get "not validated for this computer" error download ZIP version of driver ("win64_152822.zip") from same page and then install it using this instruction:
