I am brand new in PA. I never played TA before. I use to play C&C and RA2 a lot in the past. The game looks great, potential for being unique and different is there! Not squarred but rounded map (planet) is a great and unique way to play strategy game. It is a strategy game, right ? not a mass production based on the only concept of being faster than to other to attack and crush. If so, Let's do a script to play without people being involved, there no need for human. if there no place for imagination and time to thing about a strategy, let's find a different game category than 'strategy'. Am I too old to need time for think and to enjoy that time ? In the few PA games i saw and i played, I had this feeling to be in a "tank rush game", concept that some players developped in games like C&C, AOE, ... espacially when playing on the Internet: The goal was to win, whatever a strategy exist or not, whatever it had time for fun or not during the game. When you have no limitation about quantity of certain vehicles, aircrafts, or armaments, anything may happend and this 'anything' is allways beeing surrounded by on thousand copy of the same attack vehicle. Where is the fun when the only goal is to produce Win is a goal, but the process must be enjoyable. There a lot of fans of that game that appreciates this 'fast' way they play the game. This is allright. I don't beleive that I have the same way to think and to appreciate the game than the majority of PA players. suggestion: add some user configurable settings in a way to make players (at game creation stage) able to choose between a fast game with no limitations, or a smooth game with limitation (population limit, specific vehicles or category of vehicle population limit, ... so the "strategy" level of the game could be explored and injoyed by players. Comments will be appreciated. (English is a second language, don<t flame me for my poor syntax) BrainKiller, Canada.
All your issues basically stem form the fact that this is still a Beta and many aspects are still in development, like the Unit Roster, Uber has stated they want about 5-6 units per factory which will provide a lot more depth when choosing unit compositions. Game speed is basically controlled by the map, want a short game? Play on a smaller moon. Bigger Game? Do 2 planets and a selection of moons and have players spawn on separate planets(Not do-able in the Beta yet). Things like Population limits are more or less directly counter to the point of this sub-genre of RTS. Mike
Even with the current units and such there is a lot of strategy in this game atm when do I decide to upgrade to advanced tech, do I have enough air superiority to go bombers now, is it safe to split up my army so i can expand to this new mex area or should I make a push directly towards the opponent to raid their eco, do i split up my forces and send units around the back of the planet and try to flank them, is now a good time to go orbital or do i need to invest in a bigger army to hold off the opponent, are nukes in play now? is it to late to build my own nuke to try to conter nuke them or is it better to spread out my bases and out number their army while they invest in the nuke so I can get more map control and put large dents in their eco ^^ there is alot to think about and the flanking is huge in my opionion I've had some really good games where the reason i won was I split up my army in two or 3 groups and attacked in one spot on own side of the main base then another spot on the main base while another group comes up with reinforcements from the main production lines since many players (myself included sometimes) take most or all of there forces to conter an incoming attack they leave another side of there base open to an attack before they can go reinforce that sector ^^ and remember scouting is very important I see to many players not scouting and not expanding these days...
I understand what you are saying, but I think it is also something that you can get used to. Like playing any new genre of game, it can take a while to adjust. This is the first time I have played an RTS that required so much concentration in order to expand and manage multiple bases, but it feels great when you start to actually accomplish some of these things. But yes, here's hoping there will be options in the main game, or mods, that will allow a slower pace of play.
Beta is beta. There's many things to be added. You're also wrong in assuming that there's no strategy involved due to the scale of the game. There's massive amounts of strategy involved in PA. Constant scouting, raiding, flanking, attacking. PA is all about large scale macro combat. That doesn't mean there's no strategy involved. Such claims simply mean you don't fully yet understand the strategies of PA. I'd recommend watching some gameplay of the skilled players.
is that true ? that means 8x5 40 type of Units and I did not counted the orbital stuff ( that gonna get reworked ) THATS FREAKEN AWESOME I starting to like that we don't have factions lol more units to the player to play around.
It's what they've mentioned, obviously it's not a promise or anything but at the very least it seems to be a 'soft' goal. That was one of the main drivers behind not doing the 'traditional' faction stuff. Mike
