Hey guys! Loving the alpha, definitely getting the TA/SupCom feel I crave in an RTS. Just a thought for the future - It definitely doesn't matter right now with the single-planet combat, but if we're eventually going to be dominating an entire galaxy, I think that bringing back base template saving like we had in Forged Alliance would be a killer idea. I know we have queued build orders, but if we're gonna have an entire galaxy to explore, I think that being able to make a "prefab" template to help populate other planets with at least a basic fort would be a great feature. That way you can send off an engineer to start work on an outpost on a new uninhabited planet and then get back to the battle more quickly - or just save a firebase template to drop all over the place. (that's all I ever did in FA anyways.) I think this would keep the game macro-focused, since of course you have to build the template first before you can even save it, but it would also help cut down on a lot of "dead time," or just staring at engineers building a base on a totally empty planet. Keep your eyes on the asteroid bombardments instead!
It's been mentioned too many times to count. Also the game never takes place in a Galaxy scale, the Galactic War is a Meta game to tie together a series of Skirmishes, possibly not unlike Risk. Mike
I think this coupled with the repeat button in factories would make this game a lot more macro/AWSOME then it already is :!: :!:  :ugeek:
Then what's the point of galactic combat or mega games ? or mega games really evolve 40 player free for all or team game on a solar systen ?
...ya like FA basically.. Uber said PA would lean even more on the Marco end then FA, I hope they do, so far it's not the case. knight whats this about galactic war being a meta game?? THAT SUX !!! what about them 40 player games? are you saying we won't get to play at conquering an entire galaxy?? that would suck!!!! I want the galaxy map to be part of the zoom just like the solar system map !
If you have a server with enough RAM and CPU power you will certainly be able to make massive matches that span a very large number of planets/star systems with 40+ players. I don't think most gaming PC's will be capable of this though. I suspect that you will need real server hardware to pull this off. The galactic war is a way to tie all these matches together in a campaign to conquer the galaxy. Each match can be as large or as small as you want it to be within the constraints of the server's hardware.
Those are 2 completely ideas. There isn't some kind of hard limit on system size, it's still possible to have huge systems assuming you have a powerful server, and a server can handle lots of players so long as it has the bandwidth. Galactic was was always meant to be as described, try watching the video on Kickstarter again and you'll see. It's still a large scale war, just that you're fighting in the individual battles one at a time instead of all at once. Mike
