I'd like you all to take this survey about what balance you prefer playing and why. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1cYUzDgH6g0ded79-4Vcl1zg5kJU_zVWGOBbZUu_nn_k/viewform?usp=send_form View results: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...5Kvt9lte12-pQES9eWAkeQ2nXo/edit#gid=320125456
i'm tempted to vote but i feel it's too early to call, if I was FORCED to vote by gunpoint I'd say Realm rebalance. but it isn't complete, nor is the PA balance so it may be unjust.
Follow-up survey! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/194Z31jJlur4MTUfeIRR35Iwng5iczyXDesASxg9xWK4/viewform?usp=send_form
New survey! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ucdmZk0Z5_GZbROlF4ONCflkA22WQsEcuj_XfzezAe4/viewform?usp=send_form Responses: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...hRlVncN_CzAhRWqlYAZaI6-rw/edit#gid=1619467623
Would the sole person who chose one of the helpful responses for the Statera survey please update their response so that it's useful? If something felt imba, I'd like to know what was imba.
Once again, I'm forced to point out that forum surveys are pretty useless due to low turnout. For example, according you your first survey, the community is roughly 50/50 split between vanilla and RCBM. As much as I wish this were the case, it is very clearly false. I apologise for saying this, but even if they had higher turn-out, this questionnaire isn't very well designed in terms of it's options and leading questions. For example, the second questionnaire has an answer "I made my own balance mod so of course I like it better". This is very silly, because a question has been created which applies to about 5 people out of a large player base. The best way to gain information about a project such as this is simply talk to as many people as possible. Surveys are useless without a decent turnout and even then, they must be carefully designed so as to not lead people or bias results.
Well, with the way uber have implemented mod accessibility within the game atm, i don't find it surprising that server mods are basically dead right now. I've seen it happen in other games the same way it's happening now. If uber wants server mods to be a thing, they need to be just as accessible in terms of number of clicks as vanilla games. I mean the server browser doesn't even save your filter choice to see modded games in the lobby. Granted, the server browser is most likely going to see some much needed improvement as time goes on.
There's a mod for that, although that's less then ideal. I think that's just a case of them not taking off yet. If your doing more then a quick balance tweak or restricting building, then it takes time. Also there's the issue of Uber changing file locations and other stuff meaning you might have to spend a lot of time simply updating you mod so it works with the current build.
Balance is good when I win, and bad when I lose. Additionally, by this metric, the AI is very, very bad and needs work.
Nah its all about accessibility. If you were a new player, you wouldn't even know there was a hidden option that you can tick to see modded games. And if by some miracle someone does stumble upon it, the server browser doesn't give information as to what the mod is. Modded game types just never really take off when you have systems that don't make these things clear to the player. If they don't facilitate critical mass, they never really take off no matter how much time given. Like, i would host statera or rlm balance mod games regularly if i could reliably expect them to fill up in a reasonable amount of time without having to go begging on irc and forums.
I pretty much agree with most of what you have said. However, it is good that the first thing a new player does isn't unknowingly hop into a modded game. As for server mod visibility, I am sure that it will see some love eventually. But for know I am just happy with the fact that I can play around with server mods. Have you considered joining a community. I know for a fact that there's at least a few people who love to play the RCBM in the realm.
