Hey, I was just wondering if anyone can give an example of a game that was completely terrible early on and then came back to be pretty popular considering the amount of followers it had at its worst. I'm not including alpha.
I honestly cannot think of one, but I will get back to this thread if I ever get around to remembering one.
Borderlands2 compared to Borderlands1. Also, why would a bad game get the "approval" of fund spending from a company, to make a sequel or any updates? Hey, there is Runescape too.
I don't know why they would get funding to make another game, but I've seen plenty of sequels for games I'm thinking, "why bother?" (mainly movie-based) but I'm sure there are quite a few. I am unaware of the story behind Runescape, but Borderlands 1 was definitely successful and a bad example. Also, I wasn't originally talking about sequels - more so games that got updated to be closer to their original potential), but I guess it'd be good to throw them in there too. Just realize, I'm not looking for games that had OK original titles and then really hit the nail on the head with sequels. I'm talking about a game that was so bad that someone wouldn't normally bother playing the sequel only to find out it's actually relatively decent.
I guess CS:GO could qualify, matchmaking was a joke on release -- no punishment for leavers, voting to restart/scramble, not skill based, hard to play with friends and land on the same team, occasionally just straight-up not working (got put in a gun game match when queueing for defuse), drop-in drop-out is a stupid idea for the competitive matchmaking they were going for. It's still not perfect but it's a lot better now than it was before.
Assassins Creed. Hated part 1, finished it because I wanted to know the story, but awfully repetitive. Part 2, never had so much fun.
Yeah, i didnt enjoy Assassins creed, but i eventually bought assassins creed 2 on a steam sale and enjoyed it so much i went back and played the first. Also, since when is runescape an example of a bad game gone good? imho, its the exact opposite. Multiple mechanics that jagex brought in completely changed the game (some they have now reverted eg. wilderness, others they have not eg. grand exchange) Not sure how many of you are strategy gamers, but Starcraft compared to Starcraft:Brood war is definitely one of the biggest turn around games.
It had a lot of potential and Ubisoft saw that, but also understood that things had to change as they wouldn't get away with the same sort of gameplay a second time.
I agree but if we start discussing quality alone, I feel like it will just turn into a bunch of opinions on whether someone liked a game or not. I enjoyed AC btw. I haven't played any of the others.
hmm.... I can't think of many because it's all based on opinion really. Can't say I've really liked most of the games like GoW and AC, but I do love the other AC series. (Armored core) but they've been great from the start!
