Well I bought the game a couple days ago, and i very much enjoy it. :D :)

But then i see these people running around in different costumes. So i was thinking "ok, so they have some DLC or Unlock due to achievements".

But no, sadly Uber decided to have these costumes for the stupidest of reasons... "if you had the game prior to _____ you get something."

I mean really? :x I could understand some achievements or DLC but I can't get the costumes ever?

What bad design, No game company should discourage new players with items ONLY available in the past. Hell, make it DLC, it would make them money and it would make every new player feel equal.

I'm guessing you're a PC player. Count yourself lucky... us poor xbox players don't even get updates never mind costumes. :(

I assume you are missing the TF2 gear and the beta tester gear. The TF2 thing was a time limited offer. That's how VALVe wanted to handle it, so that's that. And the beta gear was a little thank you from the developers to the people who preordered MNC and helped to improve the game before it was released.

Just for reference, us Xbox gamers don't have anything past 'Spunky Cola Special'. A lot of Xbox forum members get pissy and overreact.

I don't have the beta stuff either, but it seems fair. It was a promotional deal.

Oh beta stuff is fine, i get that. Same with "pre-ordering" game i guess.

But having items/costumes unlocks that double the original amount not and none are available?

I even own tf2 lol. Nothin for that either.
    ----------------------------------------------------

Just saying, they could be smart and MAKE MONEY if they would just put up skins for DLC.

As it is right now, its bad game design.

how many years have you been working as a game designer? the issue you're pointing out has little to nothing to do with "game design"

as for what you're trying to say, i think you get the chicken, default, biker, and retro gear for free, which is basically all of them except the ones Jessep explained why

as for selling them. of course they could do it, but making a game isn't all about money and there's a lot more other things to consider, at least that's what i think.

And if they did sell them, people would gripe that Uber was selling skins

A lot more things to consider? Like what?

Making the game more enjoyable ?
    Encouraging new players ?
Giving new players more equality ?
Making more money for the company/developers ?

I played another game prior to this: Global Agenda.

They had the exact same setup. At the end-game the only thing you could do was to get "flair" items. However, the flair items were only given 5 months prior to me joining for a weekly event. So anyone who joined after that one week 5 months ago couldn't access the content.

Then, thankfully the developers became smart on this and put up the content in a cash store. Thousands of people bought the items, and the new items.

Was it game breaking? No. The content was already there anyway.
    -------------------------

What i found MORE interesting was how much the oldies were against it. They ALREADY HAD the items, they apperantly(just like MNC) were selfish and wanted only them to have the items.

Hell, if they were achievement based that would be even better. Although I'd think the company would much rather make money than have it be off some achievement.

How would you feel if you had something special after waiting X amount of time only to see a thousand others get the same thing without doing anything except say "Hi! I'm here! Where's my stuff?"

Did you betatest? No? Then why should you get the gear the betatesters got?
I don't have the betatester gear and I'm not gonna yell at Uber to release it to all, I didn't do anything to earn it.

If Uber would release the beta or TF2 gear, a lot of the old fans would be angry and rightfully so. They were promised an exclusive item when they preordered and played MNC early. This is not just a financial issue but also a legal issue.

Your point would have more weight if this was about content that actually changed the gaming experience like more maps or an additional class. In that case it might be worth looking into it. Since the gear is a purely cosmetic aspect, there is no real need for Uber to address the issue imo. Not if it means to figure out if that was a legally binding promise, get some lawyers to look into it, hammer out a new deal with VALVe, make an extra DLC, provide support for an extra DLC...

All that for what? If there was such a huge demand for a DLC like this, there would be others asking for it. Where is this flood of players who would buy the 2 skins as DLC? I don't see them.

TF2 gear isn't available if you currently own tf2. Do you see the problem with that?

Beta tester gear IS FINE BEING LOCKED. I don't know WHY but you didn't even read what you quoted.

You act like making skins takes lawyers and law. LoL @ newbie.

Like i said before though, people who have the skins already are only defending it because they are selfish.

I'm not going to dignify that with a response.

PS: I'm closing this thread since you already made another one:

Sadly this thread would be the original, and more important since its in general.

My point still stands though, its bad game design to make content only for specific events and not give access to any of the old skins for new players.

Just saying, pre-order/beta items are fine.(i have to repeat myself because some people don't read.)
    ----------------------

I know that you have no real connection to uber Col, but the effectiveness of adding skins for DLC is undeniable.

Now you can argue the "tf2 hats" thing all you want, you already have these skins in-game.

Not allowing new players to purchase this only hurts the games enjoyment/profits.

The only defense i can see is that some oldies are sad they aren't "special" anymore.

It isn't even new and to be honest, what did you do to earn the TF2 skins?
The people that bought it at launch paid the full price for it, the recent surge paid $4

You've called people defending the new players not getting the TF2 items "selfish". The way you've been going you sound greedy and entitled

I don't even care if new players get the TF2 items, but like I said, the way you're posting you just sound greedy
