That's a poll for community opinion about how Backer Lounge to be used/handled. Definitions: Staff - Uber employee or moderators. Everyone - everyone with access - that is, backers. Community - trolls.
I agree with "Yes. No technical limitation, but moderated. Everything non-limited should be moved to general forum." I think that there is a backer lounge is great, but when its full with the same thing as general things, people has then anyway to look through all things and read and read .. thats not really then an advantage for the backers except that there are some diamonds hidden in the thread cave. specially for not-native englisch readers.
Should definitely keep it to limited-only information. I'm already seeing threads that could just as easily be in the general side of things. Everyone can make threads, so long as they pertain to stuff that can't yet be talked about publicly.
I'm not really keen on force moderating topics from one forum or the other. However, I would encourage all topics that are open be discussed in the main forum. How you guys decide to use it is up to you, but I have found that being as inclusive as possible generally has the best outcome on discussions. IF there are problems, I'd rather use the moderation tools we have to flag inappropriate posts (ad hominem attacks, inappropriate/distasteful humor, etc) and keep the discussions that can be had openly over in the main forum. There will be plenty of "backer exclusive" things to talk about as we continue forward.
I am with the op here. It is totally useless that everybody starts now posting here the same questions, suggestions, discussions we have in the regular forum.
Yup, I'm hoping its just the new-ness of the lounge and hopefully if we can be supportive in directing users to either start a new thread where everyone can take part in a discussion and/or pointing them out to existing threads where we have already gone over the idea/suggestion. Mike
I'm with you guys, I have just started looking over the backers lounge (HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS) and am already seeing rehashes of topics in the general forums. I'd also agree with the notion that we need to be supportive and informative rather than calling people down over it. I have seen some new users lately and we want to be an inclusive and friendly community to the newcomers.
Yup, slowly, hopefully this weekend I can spend some time tracking down more threads, if you think of any hit me up. Mike
I'd rather have the staff making the threads and we can reply there. Keep the place clean and tidy and informative. But if there's enough moderators around to keep the place tidy and away from the usual repeating topics I'll be happy with that too
Gonna play the devil's advocate here. please don't hurt me Even if the backer's lounge were to be restricted, trying to do so on a permanent basis would be inefficient. It might hold some merit at the present time, when the only topic other than limited backer information is speculation on the same level for both backers and non-backers, but once the alpha and beta are released the number of potential topics for discussion that would be relevant only to backers will increase exponentially. It would almost certainly be too much for the admins to handle exclusive creation of the threads (unless everything is condensed into a single 'alpha general discussion' thread, which would likely get very clogged up with multiple conversations, or fail to address the subjects everyone wishes to discuss). Moderation would likely also become mostly redundant, since once the alpha/beta comes out the majority of backers would move from speculation to backer-exclusive topics, rendering duplicate threads far less common and less of a problem. Any remaining duplicates would probably be on the same scale as duplicate threads you find on any other forum, meaning there is no need for specialised moderation for this one.
Definitely "Only Staff my create new threads. Everyone may post in them." I am finding it increasingly difficult to find my weekly fix of backer restricted information because off all the general forum stuff I have to comb through ever increasing unnecessary threads. Or maybe I am at using forums... :| Or better, create another section only containing moderator created threads
