Will there be an option to select which audio output device the game will use? Like this (from PlanetSide 2):
I have no answer to your question, but i feel i must ask when this would ever be useful? I'm an audio minded individual (i run an outboard mixer for heavens sake!) But i still don't see the point, even for headset reasons. Plug in a headset and set it as default, and when you unplug it windows falls back on whatever default was previous. Plug it back in and boom, its back to being default.
So I can set the audio to come out through my pc speakers no matter what device I set as my default one. I love games that have this option. A lot of times I like to have a show on in the background on my pc connected tv, so then I have to make the tv the default audio device. I also like to record my gameplay and an option like that would make it easy to avoid skype calls or music being picked up on the recording.
infuscoletum because Uber is working on positional 5.1/7.1 Encoded audio. wich means you could send it straight to your 5.1 audio system to decode. for that to work the game's output needs to be the rigth one. but their menu will probably be more like: output: >2.1 >5.1 >7.1
Both Planetary Annihilation and PlanetSide 2 use FMOD Ex middleware for sound, so I can say it's can be easily implemented. E.g audio device chooser can be done with few lines of code.
I remember having a problem with SC/FA where if I wanted to switch to my headphones during play (my wife was going to bed ) then when I done this the sound would go off until I restarted the game, in other games that had this option above, you could easily switch while in game. It's not a big problem but it would be handy to be able to switch during play if needed.
Makes sense. I guess I mostly just mix my outputs, never had to separate them This I find interesting. I know my onboard can handle 7.1.
