Hello there, Snarf Snarf. This is my first (probably only) guide to the game, and it focuses all on fighting an assassin if you are an assassin. This assumes you already understand the basic concept of how to play assassin, and you already at least a decent assassin player for pushing bots, killing turrets, and taking out the key chokeholders.

First of all, you NEED the following endorsements:

    Gold Amor
    Silver Rate of Fire

Pretty much every strategy guide for assassin will say this. The bronze endorsement can vary. I like health recovery, but it's really up to you.

Once you've got your endorsements, it's time to play a game of Monday Night Combat!

As soon as a game starts, look at the other team's lineup by pressing select. Find out how many assassins there are. If there is even one assassin on the other team, you will be playing the entire game differently than if it was assassin free. So once you recognize that they have an assassin, be prepared to adjust.

Before you even leave your base, you must at least start off the game on the following assumption: The other assassin is good. Just because most people who play assassin suck doesn't mean that this particular one will. Assume he is good at the game, and assume that you will have to kill him the right away (meaning, don't think you can just run around and slash at him like I do with noobier assassins...at least not until you know that you can).

When you are against a team that has another assassin, always be jumping around. It's simple. Be in the air as much as possible. You can still kill bots while in the air. So don't just slash at them. Jump around and slash at them. That enemy assassin could come by at any point and assassinate you. He may be smart enough to turn his cloak off once he's behind you. Be ready for that. If you're jumping around a lot and moving a lot, it's going to be a lot harder for him to assassinate you. (really though, that advice could be applied to any class...If people are just jumping around chaotically I won't even target them unless they are low health...even if I am behind them)

Here are some basic tricks that you need to know:

Lunge-Grapple - Lunge (right bumper) into a face grapple. Instant kill on an assassin, even if she has gold armor. (as long as you have your sword)

Bomb-slash - Smoke bomb near the assassin, preferably after she has used her grapple, and simply kill her with your sword slash.

Bomb-Eject - Lure an enemy assassin to an ejector pad, and then bomb jump up to the ejector and use it quickly

Corner Team - Have a teammate hide around a corner. Best if it's a support or a tank or an assault. Stand in front of the corner. Wait till the assassin lunges, and jump out of the way. You'll most likely take the lunge damage, but avoid the final blow of the grapple. As soon as she lunges past the corner, have the tank/support/whatever rape her face.

Face-slap front grapple with your shuriken. Since the patch, it can kill a gold armor assassin.

Scenario: You are fighting another team's assassin. You are at full health, she is at full health. You both are aware of each other.

You're going to start this fight by looking around you and seeing what kind of ways you can use the terrain to your advantage. Is there an ejector near you? If so, use your bomb jump.

Most of the time you're in this situation against another good assassin, it's gonna play out like this: You both are going to try to lunge grapple each other. You'll bounce off each other and nobody gets grappled. After a while, either he will face grapple you (without a lunge). Then, you'll get a free face grapple right back. After that, both of you are fighting each other in red health and it's basically a slash fest. A lot of times right after the face-grapple trade, you'll both lunge at each other again.

Any time you face grapple an assassin, starting mashing the right button as fast as possible. You want to lunge before he does. If you lunge before him, you'll kill him with it. This really can come down to a who-lunges-first battle.

If the assassin and you both bounce off of your second lunge again, this is where I like to use smoke bomb. Right when you land after you bounce off of the lunge, the other assassin is just within range to be blinded by level 2 smoke bomb. Bomb-slash. If you can't blind her, bomb jump to make it hard to pinpoint your location. Lunge at her for the kill when you land.

Scenario: Assassin has less health than you, and she's in the open where she can escape.

A lot of the times, you're going to have to let her go immediately. Try and kill her, but unless she sucks, she's going to get away at least in time to get her health recovery. However, you can choose to follow/chase her down. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not. Keep in mind that if you ARE going to chase her down, once you get close, you need to turn your cloak off so she doesn't know you're behind her. Just go for your basic assassination kill.

Scenario: You're low health and your opponent is full health

Run. You won't win. Smoke bomb as soon as possible, and get away. If an assassin can ever kill you with one face grapple, you should be away from all enemy pros. If you are trapped into a corner and know that one face grapple can kill you, switch to your shuriken. Fire off shurikens to help you keep track of where she is, and if she comes near you, face grapple her. If you can, a corner trap also works really well here if you have a teammate or two you're playing with.

Scenario: You're facing two assassins at once.

Don't fight. Even two shitty assassins should always be able to kill you. If you grapple one, the other one will back grapple you. Go for ejector bombs, and corner traps. Other than that, just stay away.

Other tips: Don't be predictable. If you have the exact same routine where you're running down and killing bots in the exact same fashion from wave to wave, the other assassins will figure out your routine. They'll kill you. If you're only pushing one side, you'll fail. The biggest thing about playing assassin successfully is for nobody to ever know where you're going to be. So if you go down the enemy's backdoor to kill a turret and it works, don't go back down the backdoor to start tagging the moneyball. Go clear up your lanes. After clearing lanes for a second, switch it up, go up top, and try to get one assassination kill. Then run to their back door and get another turret. Then go push your lanes again. Then go chill by a good chokepoint firebase and defend it for a second.

Always switch up what youre doing. When you're an assassin, you're kind of always fighting all the other assassins, even when you're not actually fighting. You want to be able to stay as unpredictable as possible while figuring out whatever routines they may have.

Also, make sure you get your sword first. Assassin with a dagger vs. assassin with a sword is an unfair fight. Make sure it's tipped into your favor as fast as possible.
