Does anyone here have suggestions for what art tablet I should get? I've been looking at some of the Bamboos but maybe someone else can help.
You have to take note of your aspect ratio. My monitor is 8:5 [1680 x 1050] which is basically wide screen so a wide tablets helps minimize stretching.
I recently bought a Bamboo CTL-470K, small, affordable and pretty damn awesome For the record: Never touched one in my life before, so it's my first experience with it. Driver comes with tools to map multiple screens or just one, I mapped my primary screen to the pad (while keeping aspect ratio*) and moved my mouse to my left hand so I can still access my secondary, pretty fluid with that already. * A 1680x1050 screen maps 1:1 with this pad, so no stretching or loss of usable area. http://www.yorcom.nl/userfiles/images/p ... 70K-NL.jpg
I use an Intuos 4 Medium pen tablet for making horrid drawings in Doodle or Die. Thing is like sandpaper until your at your third nib. then the surface becomes smooth.
I used to use a bamboo one a while ago. I think they're pretty well respected and some of them are quite cheap.
I'll be purchasing one sometime this summer. Probably an intuos 4 or any of the older versions. The one thing i've heard is that you MUST stick with wacom.
I just recently bought a Bamboo Capture. It's cool but darn, I'm still trying to figure this thing out. Just a noob question, how do I adjust that hover pen option? I don't like how the cursor still moves even when my pen is hovering above the thing at a couple inches.
You don't and can't, you have to get accustomed to hovering above the pad to move your mouse, as touching it counts as a left-click basically. Fastest way I got to learn it: Replace your actual mouse with the pad for a few hours and just browse the internet, go through your filesystem, etc. You'll pick it up soon enough. Be sure to sit comfortable and put the pad in the position of your mouse, not in front of your keyboard. Rest your elbow on your chair and loosely hold the pen to not cramp your fingers.
Treat it like a drawing book to the fullest as soon as the pen meets paper it will draw, what i do is hold it like a pen, an to get it to hover slightly above the pad with comfort i use my pinky and ring fingers as a base, treat your hand like the mouse. IT will be easy before you know it. Just dont put it where you put your computer mouse, hold it and treat it like a drawing book
