It seems like there isn't a lot of decent shooters out there. Halo has been competitively dead since Reach Around (most console shooters suck anyway) and I can't name a few decent FPS' besides TF2 and Unreal that still have tournies.

that's it really, aside from the sporadic community/one-time sponsor organised one day tourney.

As far as lans (aka the only thing that actually matters) are concerned: sh1t all.

edit: the politcally correct thing would be to mention both CounterStrike and TF2 as comp shooters, but I personally don't think they're good comp games. TF2 because it's plain boring and relatively skill-less, CS because it's boring and random.

Call of Duty. Say what you will, but the fact that Black Ops 2 has a proper spectator HUD and built-in streaming capabilities on console is kind of awesome.

Warsow has community-sponsored tourneys that range from small, weekly deals to competitions that actually have a (small) prize pool. Much of the competition tends to be on the European side, and it tends to be split between Dual and Bomb modes.
On the NA side, they are trying to get the weekly King of the Hill tourneys started up again, now that more new players are jumping in.

In other games, Quakeworld still has the occasional community competition, and has had a sudden upsurge in players lately.
CPMA has similar competitions, although pill and grimbar could probably elaborate more.
I know that Painkiller was supposed to have an upsurge of players with its latest release, but I can't say much on that front.
Nexuiz (the free PC version, not the consolized abomination) still has a small, devoted community, though many tend to be moving over to Xonotic. I feel that Xonotic will be the main focus in the community as time goes on. Not sure about their competitions though.

I'm sure there are more I could mention, but I can't recall them all at the moment.

I know of four tourneys held and one that's being planned since I started playing in December/January, excluding PQL tourneys/leagues because PQL is crap.

1 Cross-continental TDM tourney that completely went down the drain
1 EU duel cup for all skill levels
1 NA and 1 EU duel cup for low skill players
1 EU TDM tourney that might get organized if there's enough interest (which honestly seems a bit unlikely to me)

There was an idea to host a CPM-lan in Enschede, Holland, but that was abandoned.

(also CPMA != CPM. CPM is the physics, weapon balance, ruleset and general gameplay, CPMA a mod that can be used to either play CPM or VQ3)

I did mean CPMA in general, as it's pretty much the standard for VQ3 players too. (Or was, last time I checked.)

Ah, sorry for the condescension. Including VQ3, there might have been a few more competitions, but I don't keep up with the VQ3 scene.

It's probably one of the biggest console shooters for tournaments, but god, do you want to just punch all the players.

I won't say CoD has by far the downright most despicable community, but it sure as hell is the most unlikeable I know of.

And a side note, SO PROUD TO BE BRITISH.

Agh wanted to post that video, beat me to it :/

Team shooters are kinda boring to watch, I like playing CS and things like that but much prefer watching dota-likes and quake. Also starcraft but I dont even know how to play it....

No shooter will ever be as competitive as Friday Night Bingo.

You won't understand till you've seen those old ladies with the troll dolls. The ones with troll dolls are the most competitive people ever.

If you like watching quake, you should definitely tune in to faceittv for the Sunday cups. The casting is decent on a good day and absolutely terrible on a bad one, but the level of play in EU has really risen the last few months and the Sunday cups have become quite entertaining to watch.

Starts every Sunday at about 15.30 continental time http://www.twitch.tv/faceittv

as far as a decent competitive console FPS goes, you can pick up shadowrun for $5 bucks new at game stop.
