Richard D. James is one of my all-time favorite electronic musicians. Probably in my entire life. His music is alien, unlike anything I've ever heard before. It can range from being tranquil and melancholy to becoming erratic and at the same time harmonic. "It is not people, it is not myself, it's the fully calm feeling of being a spectator, a guest in an alien place, just wandering around and being completely contempt with just looking at everything around me. Like a dream, it's a melancholy feeling, but it's also the calmest feeling. The feeling of being here, but not physically, like a spirit, with no goals, total? relaxation" I heavily recommend listening to his older material first, starting with: Selected Ambient Works 85-92 The best place to start. Recommendations: Xtal Heliosphan We Are The Music Makers Drukqs His last release before going MIA. A bit more traditional than his other work. Recommendations: Vordhosbn Afx237 v7 Ziggomatic 17 (A great transition track. One of my top faves from him for sure) I Care Because You Do Some people like it, some don't. Recommendations: Acrid Avid Jam Shred Some other recommendations: Windowlicker (Funniest music video I've ever seen. Makes Skrillex look like a greasy rat boy jk) Selected Ambient Works Volume II (Very very VERY ambient. Makes you reflect on your life) Seriously, I'm actually putting my heart and soul into this. One of my favorite musicians along Boards of Canada, Opeth (thnx Jon) and J Dilla. Give him a listen to. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION. BYE!
Cool post Zoooooom, Aphex Twin is amazing. The windowlicker video is so awesome and tripped out, like most of his vids. Did you know this about the song Windowlicker: Viewing a spectrogram of the second track on the single reveals hidden images of James' face that were apparently synthesized as sound by Aphex Twin for the express purpose of being discovered in this manner. <<<< so friggin cool :ugeek:
