Hi, I'm sure most of you are tired of answering these threads but I am very skeptical about the game mainly for the fact that I have no clue if I can run it. I see people with these amazing graphic cards that fail to maintain even 30 fps. Anyway, I have a AMD Radeon HD 6770 1gb and was wondering how it would do performance-wise? I really, really want to buy this game, but if I can't even run it with my 6770, then I should just wait or buy another game.
the mistake everyone makes is to assume "high" in PA is equivalent to "high" in BF4 and "uber" in PA is equivalent to "ultra" in BF4. i don't know how people can make that mistake when they don't make the same mistake mistake going from, say, worms to BF4. The assumption that BF4 (or 3) is anywhere near top of the line hardcore graphics is probably the root of that problem. take crysis the first and maybe then you're talking, but really, seriously speaking there is no piece of software that has ever needed to load as many polies as PA. hence the need for lots of graphic ram. let alone apply tons and tons of post processing such as point light, hdr and bloom to all of them. one trick that will indeed put you back on your feet is, as Slamz suggested, to turn unit pop-in option to "range based". this will lighten the load on your gpu quite alot, but the planets remain. Honestly your GPU should run PA quite well, you could expect something around 30-28FPS with medium settings. just don't try to go to "high" or anything. People like to get carried away with how good they think their card is and yours is low-average. The only thing that runs "uber" (and probably not stunningly as of now as optimizations are far from done) is a Titan.
That mistake is easy to make, as BF4 on ultra looks somewhat decent and PA on Uber looks like a leftover from yesteryear. Or SupCom, wow the texturing and unit detailing seems advanced when you compare them. Then we have stuff like Crysis with various extensions that uses heaps of GPU power but looks just stunning. I understand its different artstyles and its mostly icon wars so no one really sees the detail. Far from. On medium settings Im on about 35 during medium action - bit above 60 on a featureless moon with nothing going on. On a 6970 with twice the VRAM. The 6770 has roughly half the stream processors and half the memory bandwidth. Its the old Juniper core, not that far from a 5770 which wasnt exactly a monster in its days. On low settings it will most likely run even the current state at a playable speed, even though you should stay away from higher graphic settings or exceptionally huge planets. The 1GB VRAM certainly wont help. Of course since theres a lot of optimizations to be done this is very likely to improve a lot, so the final release version could very well be handled fine by a 6770 at medium and serious action but current state - IMHO not over 10-15 fps loaded at medium guesstimating from what I run here.
